VERY VERY legal, It doesn't work very often but the team that consistently managed to pull it off was when Kurt warner played for the St.Louis rams, he did some of thes fake plays that got them all they way to the super bowl.

Of course it's legal. Even in the NFL. Pro players just aren't stupid enough to fall for it. Why wouldn't it be legal? I don't get that. The line was set, the center gave the ball to the quarterback, and the idiotic defense fell for the theatrics. They should have gone and tackled his ass after the ball was snapped.

It's just like the play where the offensive guy acts like he is counting the players on his side of the field, and then "realizes" there are too many people out there. So he starts running for the sidelines before he gets called for a penalty....only, there AREN'T too many people on the field, and he stops short of the sideline. If nobody from the defense follows him out there, the quarterback hikes the ball and tosses it out to him....wide open. Defense has to be alert at all times.

They do it in baseball, too. The first baseman and pitcher meet at the mound to discuss something, and the first baseman holds onto the ball. When the runner takes his lead off of first base, the pitcher takes his foot off the rubber, and the first baseman tags the runner out.

Expect the unexpected.

I wonder if you have an argument, or if you are just going to spout out nonsense. Soccer requires a tremendous amount of athleticism, those guys are studs, but compared to american football players, forget about it. No chance you can say soccer is less gay, with all the theatrics of falling down from tackles, trying to pull the yellow cards. GD pansies.

Or maybe you think rugby is hardcore? Because they dont wear pads when they tackle? American football players dont tackle like rugby players. Its brutal (Ive played both), but rugby players just square up and pull each other down, football players run though one another with everything they got.

I could understand how you think its boring (which I completely disagree with), but gay? Lets hear the argument for that.

:D

As a recently retired college defensive lineman at the collegiate level, I can say with conviction that football is one god damn tough sport. However, I will grant that the average soccer player might beat the average football player at a 3 mile run. The average collegiate lineman, at least at a high level, can take a soccer player from their school and chuck him close to 3 miles. Long story short, there are different athletic skills needed for both games. And although I respect a great soccer player almost as much as mediocre football player, I still think football players have much larger testicles. and thats my 2 cents. :2twocents::2twocents:

ps - after 2 major knee surgeries, a shoulder surgery, and 6 broken bones that are directly attributable to my 8 year football career (played hockey in middleschool, I weighed too much for pee wee; hee hee), I can assert with confidence that football is not a gay sport, instead it is a sport which requires an incredible amount of determination and pain tolerance. :xyxthumbs:

pss - that play was legal, the other team was just stupid. If that was me playing Nose Tackle the second the center twitched he'd be in the quarter backs lap.

First of all, soccer players do NOT play for an hour without a break. Secondly, most pro football players who play one of the "skill" positions (Quarterback, running back, and wide receiver) are every bit as in shape as a soccer player, I promise you. Likewise on defense, cornerbacks, safties and linebackers. The linemen don't need running endurance; they have a different role. Still, most of them are in better shape than they appear, and significantly better than the average person.

Yes, I detected the sarcasm but cricket is a great game. If you don't understand the rules and have never played the game then i can understand how people dislike it.
However, Cricket is a somewhat honourable sport in that it has rules such as the following:-
"Cricket is a game that owes much of its unique appeal to the fact that it should be played not only within its Laws but also within the Spirit of the Game. Any action which is seen to abuse this Spirit causes injury to the game itself".
American Football is not a sport it is just a game where people try to humiliate and disrespect their opponent.

Are people ever going to get over this stupid fucking argument. Who cares if it's called football? Or why? Soccer fans always resort to this..."well we play the REAL football....neener, neener, neener"

BTW, I appreciate the skill and fitness of BOTH soccer players and American football players.

if you think US football is tough try AFL (Australian Football League)! No US Football or Football(soccer) player would last 5 mins in a game. ANd if you think im joking then just watch a game...

The coach of the defending team should take this opportunity to tell his players how they are feared when the other team resorts to such trickery. Apparently going toe-to-toe is not something they are willing to do.

Like I said before, football is more than just a physical game. It combines strategy with power like no other sport on earth.

they play for 45 min straight with a 15 min halftime; I would like to see Football players do that

soccer can be violent; many players end up with broken limbs and broken hands and broken wrists from being kicked or jumping up real high to kick the ball and falling down and breaking bones

Once again, apart from linemen, the majority of football players are in as good or better shape than soccer players. Just because the game doesn't call for constant action, doesn't mean they aren't capable of such.

Football players get all those injuries (and more) even with the pads, so what is your point?

Your argument sucks. A Toyota Camry or a Ford Focus is the most popular car in the world, but that doesnt mean its the best car. The best would be a Mercedes or something.

Soccer is so popular because all you need is something that slightly resembles a ball (bladder stuffed with rocks, a bunch of hay, human head, etc) and you can play. All the poor people around the world love it. Football just requires more thinking.

Im not sure how Australian Football differs from Rugby. Ill admit my ignorance. If somebody wants to explain the difference, I would love to read it.

Depending on where this game was played, and if NFHS high school rules are applicable, there are several rules violations. The 1st. of which would be a "false start" or "snap infraction" by the center. Rule 7, section 1, Articles 2, 3 , or 7 in the 2007 rule book. They would be a "dead ball foul", the play stopped and a 5 yard penalty. The play should have been stopped there!

The second rule violation coud be "unsportsmanlike conduct". Rule 9, section 5, article 1f. Or an "unfair act". rule 10, section 9, articles 1-4. Both would be "live ball fouls" and a 15 yeard penalty from the previous spot.

Bullshit. First of all, you can't tell from that angle if it was an illegal snap.

The second paragraph could be correct, as those rules are open to interpretation by the referee; it's a judgment call. Unsportsmanlike conduct is typically designated for excessive celebration, taunting, fighting, etc. The unfair act rule is a catchall for strange situations, and could be called here, but that would be a bullshit call, imo.

Haha that was pretty hilarious. Shame this thread turned into an american football, vs football (soccer) vs rugby slag off. i love all 3. Football is class but yea the diving and cheating is disgraceful. And you cant argue about which is tougher out of rugby n american football cuase the rules are totally different, ie in rugby you have to tackle n not charge and generally its skills are a lot more open wheras american football your allowed to wear a helmet and its a very closed style of play, ie preplanned, regimented plays.

There is definitely no honor in losing to a play like that. EVERY defensive lineman learns from day one that if the center moves the ball and you don't hear a whistle, you tackle whoever he gives it to.

Bingo! Exactly right.

Fucking crybabies complaining about fairness and shit.

I heard people whine about how Boise State won with all those trick plays against Oklahoma last year. That's what the game is all about. Exploit weakness wherever you can. If you are smaller than the other team, win with your heads. If you're bigger, pound it up the middle. Whatever works. It's chess, with pads.
