God that video was some seriously shitty quality. In any case, that rabbit kicked some serious Hawk ass. He's gonna have a story to tell his buddies back home.

I imagine out there in a desert area with not much to hide behind, animals have to learn to be really quick like that. Rabbits in the suburbs just have to run far enough to get into some hedges or something. And its usually children with undeveloped motor skills chasing them instead of hawks.cool vid

The rabbit must of been able to have seen from behind itself.

The rabbit must of been able to have seen from behind itself.

Actually, rabbits can see behind themselves. The field of vision in each eye exceeds 180 degrees and overlaps very very slightly both in front of and behind them. Most of their vision is peripheral only, meaning they can detect movement but not make out objects very well and they have almost no depth perception. That goes not just from side to side, but above as well. Rabbits can detect motion above them even when they appear to be looking straight forward. So basically, rabbits can at a minimum detect motion everywhere around them at all times. They are also very far-sighted -- they can see airplanes flying at 30,000 feet -- and they often mistake planes for hawks and freeze. Their vision is a rather interesting thing.

how the hell would any scientist ever be able to figure that out? Maybe they heard the airplane and froze because of the sound?

p.s. Im just glad nobody made a lame joke about their vision by saying "oh, it must be from eating all those carrots". wait, I think I just did. :eek7:

Easy -- they can observe a rabbit's behavior as a plane flies overhead -- and if it's at high altitude, there's a lot of sound delay and the plane will be seen long before it is heard if it's ever heard at all. And if the rabbit reacts after the plane comes into view but before there is sound, then it's responding to visual stimuli and not audio stimuli.

It's not that the hawk was missing, the bomb strapped to his chest wasn't working and he didn't know about it. He just kept trying to run into it thinking he was going to explode.

no need for all of that... theres an easier way to prove it. Just paint a number under a planes's wing, bring it up to a reasonable high altitude, 3000 ft, and then ask the rabbit what number was under the wing.
what are u people... retarded?
