What kinds of comics did you read and collect back in the days of Frank Miller, John Romita Jr, Todd McFarlane....and others

I have a major run of Amazing Spiderman starting with probably issue 100 or so. Issue number 300 is by far my favorite (Venom)....I have 3 of them.

Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, Daredevil, Spawn, Lady Death, Evil Ernie....alot of the Superman series' The Batman Knightfall run was a good read. Azrael when he got his own comic.
Just to name a few.

My most expensive purchase, was a leather cover Lady Death issue of one of her stories. Paid about 35.00 for it new.

I have tons more

I still have some comics from when I was a kid. Mostly x-men/ spiderman stuff. I used to buy packs of obscure comics. #1s. I have the #1 Turok: Dinosaur Hunter. I thought it was funny that they made a video game out of the concept.

Now if I read comics they are usually from the DC Vertigo lineup. My favorites are Sandman, Transmetropolitan, and Y the Last Man. I don't buy the comics anymore, I just download them.

I collected a year's worth of 2000AD and Judge Dredd magazine in 1991. I gave the whole box away around '98. Both weren't comics per se as they had several stories per issue. Good stuff for all that. Bisley: Awesome.

A little later, my housemate put me onto The Sandman; I have all of the trade paperbacks, plus a couple of TPs of The Books of Magic.

I also have most of the Cerebus TPs: Bloody brilliant!

My most treasured book is a 1972 edition of Lone Sloane: Delirius by Philippe Druillet.

For me it was Judge Dredd, I used to hang out early in the morning in front of the book store when a new issue was released.

Anthrax...I am the Law...Among the Living Album

Fifteen years in the academy
He was like no cadet theyd ever seen
A man so hard, his veins bleed ice
And when he speaks he never says it twice
They call him judge, his last name is dredd
So break the law, and you wind up dead
Truth and justice are what hes fighting for
Judge dredd the man, he is the law
Drokk it!

With gun and bike he rules the streets
And every perp he meets will taste defeat
Not even death can overcome his might
Cause dredd and anderson, they won the fight
When the sovs started the apocalypse war
Mega-city was bombed to the floor
Dredd resisted, and the judges fought back
Crushed the sovs with their counter-attack
Drokk it!

Respect the badge - he earned it with his blood
Fear the gun - your sentence may be death because...
Chorus

I am the law!
And you wont fuck around no more - I am the law
I judge the rich, I judge the poor - I am the law
Commit a crime Ill lock the door - I am the law
Because in mega-city... I am the law

In the cursed earth where mutants dwell
There is no law, just a living hell
Anarchy and chaos as the blood runs red
But this would change if it was up to dredd
The book of law is the Bible to him
And any crime committed is a sin
He keeps the peace with his law-giver
Judge, jury, and executioner
Drokk it!

Crime - the ultimate sin
Your iso-cube is waiting when he brings you in
Law - its what he stands for
Crimes his only enemy and hes going to war

Crime - the ultimate sin
Your iso-cube is waiting when he brings you in
Law - its what he stands for
Crimes his only enemy and hes going to war

Yeah...true.

The trouble with collecting comics, is the market is so polluted with them right now, noone is buying collections.
Probably the same reason I have held onto all my old sports cards.

Does the language they're printed in affect the value?

I would assume yes, taking into account 'supply/demand' issues...how many were printed in that country, what is the popularity of the hobby there, etc...?

Have you ever compared the values of your comics to other publications of the same issues in other countries?

Not usually....I have seen foreign language comics in comic shops before, and they were priced far higher that english versions of the same book. I dont know what it is about it though. I guess it's just something different.

i had around 400 2000ad progs. From number one which was called star lord straight through. I kept then in my bedroom cupboard and would sift through them frequently. Mot in pristine condition but very good still. I asked my mother one day where they had gone, she said she gave a load to her mate whos son was in hospital aaaaagh! Then if ditched then. Dredd was (is) the best, rogue trooper was pretty good to. So much in fact that i bought a soft back cool recently. Now im a touch older i appreciate all the fine artwork. The more you think about it it must have taken ages to sketch some of the scenes. Look at Dredds centre page spreads.

Don't know, the first number was free, I think everyone with a newspapersubscription, got a free Donald Duck. 65% of the magazines was thrown away... the same week. There are not so many comic-shops who have the original number 1. The watch you could win, with the puzzle inside, is worth a lot.

I think the magazine printed in a rare language is most expensive.

I never going to sell it. (I hope my kids stay off drugs and won't sell it too)

Yeah.....Id hate to see what would happen if anyone ever dipped into my old sports cards for drug money....Id probably beat the hell out of someone if that ever happened.

The most valueble card I have is a Dan Marino Rookie Card in Mint condition. Wish i had more than 1. I also have a Brett Favre hologram rookie, worth about 75.00 last I knew

My guess would be it's due to less printings of that issue in the language...the less that's out there, the more valuable it becomes.

It works that way with coin collecting, anyway...I'd assume it's much the same with comic books.

Cards, comics, and coins....its all pretty much the same when it comes to certain rarity and values
