View Full Version : Spent Some Of Grandma's $$$

First off I would like to say THANK YOU for all those that offered condolences & sympathy in my earlier post about my grandmother's passing (yes Jigga, that even includes you) & as mentioned in that thread she left me a sizable pile of cash. Well I spent nearly 200 grand of it today. What I did with it was pay off my brother's & my sister's homes for them. They will be getting the deeds by certified mail, & neither know anything about this. I am looking forward to their responses. Anyhow just wanted to give you all an update on myself & my situation. I'm still sad & miss her very much. That I mishandled helping her before she died & how I feel about it now has taught me that we MUST treat the ones we love like they are the we you love. Otherwise saying "I love you" is just talk. Again Thank YOU all for your kind words.

Wow Mukply,

You truly have a good heart, for paying of your siblings homes, and doing it secretly on top of it... you sir will truly be blessed. Kudos to you.

Don't convince yourself you 'mishandled' your grandmother...you didn't...you reacted the way anybody would who was being nagged constantly. I'm sure there was a reason the rest of your family didn't get along with her, so don't put all this burden on yourself...don't blame yourself, I'm sure your grandmother doesn't blame you.

Old people tend to be that way...and I'm sure the love and support you gave her FAR outweighed you getting annoyed with her here and there...you were probably far more aware of how annoyed you were than she was.

You brother and sister are pretty lucky to have you...and so was your grandmother.

There is a one time tax free capital gains deal that allows for it to be a tax free gift. I do not know about such things, but bet damn well I talked to the ones who do before I did this. No way was I going to piss away granny's very hard earned (I mean by her, not me) cash to Bush & his cronies.

Good one Mukphly- you've gone and done the best possible thing for your sibs: Homes are essential, and banks are bloodyminded chisellers.

It might be an idea to cool off for a couple of weeks before you do anything else major with it. Treat yourself and a mate or two to a nice restaurant meal, and have a think about what you'll do with it.

Most importantly, don't let all those zeroes go to your head: 600K can either set one well up- like in a new business, or be frittered/scammed away in a second.

Rule of thumb: If anyone (investment consultants, accountants, friends with a business idea etc.) approaches you with advice of any sort, listen to them and if you decide to act on that advice: GO ELSEWHERE to do so.

I wouldn't have done that personally, but thats just me. Good for you if thats your thing ;) Im not saying id have given them nothing, but maybe replace a car if they need it or something or just a small sum, not paying off the mortgage. I hope they appreciate it, its an amazing/outrageous gift!

^^^ No way: 600 K isn't enough to retire on, unless you move to a poor country.

Especially now that it's 400k...then, taxes out of that...

Just keep doing what you're doing, keep working, don't overspend...that money can keep you from 'worrying' about money, as long as you don't burn it all...you could live worry free for life it you play it smart.

Not being stressed about bills and having some money put away, working FOR you is a much better quality of life than most of us have! Enjoy it!

Besides helping out my bro & sis I won't spend a dime of granny's money. I am going to invest it conservatively (so as not to risk losing it) & let it grow. I have a small manufacturing business and was doing good before grandma's generosity, but even if I was dead nuts broke I don't think I could bring myself to spend her money on myself. Any how the money that her money makes, now that is the money that I will consider mine & have some fun with. Thank you all for your kind words and advice. As angry & bitter as this place can seem at times, in reality you all are a bunch of kind hearted softies.:D (do not worry though, your secret is safe with me). :1bluewinky:

PS- For those who care, the little dog is very depressed and seems lost, but is starting to come around. I got it to play outside for a little yesterday, & she even waged her tail a bit. She will be fine, she just needs more time. Any how just wanted to let you know how the hound was getting along.-Muk

i dont understand why you're so keen on not spending any of it, from reading your last thread your siblings are the ones that didn't want to help her?.. you did?.. but you shouted at her etc and feel bad or something?.. i think you should lighten up and lose the 'woe is me my gran is gone ' attitude man i mean you took your nan in and looked after her...

i know deep inside you're dying for some prostitutes cocaine, spirites and ounces of the good shit.

sniff some lines of a hookers ass and you'll feel tonns better

my friend inherited lots, and invested 250k into some plan. Any ways if if doesn't pouch it for five years if'll get 50k back per year for the rest of his life. You could easily retire if your sensible. Whatever you do enjoy it.

I was not implying there was any kind of mistreatment in any way to your grandmother ( though that does not include other members of the household.) I am just fed up with all of your bullshit and lies. How can you thank me over and over for being the one to get something rolling to where she recieves the care she needed right before she passed on, propose marriage to me within that same week, then come sneak on this stupid fucking chat bullshit to talk to a bunch of assholes that probably give their computer more time than their "loved ones", people that you don't even know, spilling your heart out about things you've never even talked to me about, not to mention leaving me or any mention of me in your life at all in any of it, when I was here helping you through it (and her) every step of the mother fucking way. fuck you, hope your truck returns dumb shit. Perhaps I should fill in for your friends here about what I found last evening and how well your taking care of granny's dog (the ONLY thing that she loved) in this illness and harsh wanna be nag-free world. If not for me the poor thing either would have exploded or starved/dehydrated itself to death. i'm sure "granny" is looking down smiling right now. Especially when you went and spent all her money she clutched ever so tightly on a couple of grandchildren that never even gave her the time of day. Ummm.. yeah, i'm sure he would rather have you do that than finish school and become the attorney you have always dreamed of becoming. Believe me, you would have fit into that career like a glove. duhhhhhhh

But, you do have a point Ozzie. I was thinking more along the lines of inflation destroying the value of the money over the longer term.

Oh, and can anyone really consider themself retired if they're managing their own nest egg? My Dad hasn't run a business since 2004, yet he recently complained to me about his 'workload'... ;)
