Wow looked less than 100yrds. and he couldn't hit him. What a horrible shot, back to the range is right.

I'd more than likely say his scope was off. If he sighted it in before it must have bumped it! If you're inside an enclosed blind or building, the sound of the shots doesn't carry outside and the deer doesn't hear a thing except the zing of a bullet.
