my rant about why i hate MS

Here is my story. I have had my xbox360 for just over a year. Never had any major problems with the console. No red rings. Just a freeze up every now and then, and the fact that it sounds like a jet taking off in my room. But today was different. Today was a day where I wanted to grab the console off the table and throw it out the window in frustration. It all started when I wanted to download the new “frontlines” demo. Ok, no big deal right? Wrong. It appears that I am not allowed to download mature rated games due to the recent fall console update. I double checked to make sure the family content settings were turned off. Which I would wonder why they would be since my parents have never touched my xbox. It said that the settings allowed all ratings of media to be accessible. Puzzled by this I decided to call M$ support to see what the deal is. After dealing with the annoying automated voice that tries to hard to sound hip and cool, I finally get patched through to “José” He could not speak a lick of comprehendible English. After a series of “say that again” and “what?” he says that I will need to….*click* my amigo hung up on me.

So I call back and after another gauntlet of redundant questions from the automated pick-up. I get transferred to a very nice and polite girl. I didn’t get her name ( will refer to her now as jena) but she did her job well….actually about as good as M$ will let her. So she started out with the basic questions, “what my GT is” “email associated with the account” “windows live ID” ect... after giving her this information, she asked me to give her the last 4 digits of the credit card on file. It being over a year since I made the account. I didn’t know. She told me where to go and find it. I read it off to her and she stops me mid sentence to inform me that she needs to speak to the credit card holder. I roll my eyes and get my mother on the cell phone.

So now I have the land line and my cell phone both on speaker, one in each hand holding them next to each other so they can talk. I tell my mother what is going on and that she needs to tell jena the credit card numbers. Mom doesn’t know what they are. So I have to tell mom. Then mom has to tell jena. So on we go with this. She has me get on the console and make a new windows live ID. Did that, fail. Still didn’t work. By this time mom had left (she was at work the whole time) so jena suggested that we upgrade my account from “child” to “adult” ok, what ever gets it done. I ask jena what I need to do to proceed with this, she says that she has to speak with the parent or legal guardian regarding this procedure. I ask her to hang one while I dial up mom on the cell phone and she informs me that she actually has to “speak” to her. This is followed by a annoyed “………what?” from me.

I told her that I was dialing my mother so she could speak to you. She said that it had to be 2 way. For some reason I could not be on the line as well. Which I technically wasn’t. so I need to leave my poor mother to answer a bunch of questions and provide information she does not know because she didn’t even make the account?! I ask jena if there is a direct number to reach her so my mother could call her. She said “nope” we cannot call you. You have to call us. So she tells me that I am going to get a reference number for the case. I ask her to hold while I get a pen. “I can’t tell you, I have to tell your mother” no don’t get me wrong. Jena handled the situation very well. It is not her fault that there is so much red tape. It just really makes ME mad because of the things that WE, the consumer and paying customer has to endure to keep the richest man in America from getting a lawsuit filed against him because some little kid saw some blood, or hear a swear word, or saw some skin.



EDIT: i may not be able to download the free demos and items for M rated games. but M$ will sure as hell let me buy them! i am a paying customer of XBOX LIVE. why should i not be able to enjoy content that was once available to me? the family controls are off, parents called MS to have them upgrade it to an adult account. M$ would not allow me to play M rated games even with my parents consent! am i paying for something and yet M$ says i cant use part of it all of a sudden? i am 17 and it says on the M rated games 17+ ! even though XBL is M$'s property and they can do what they want with it. but this is just MADNESS!
