Hey Filecabi noobs, this place is a lot different than I thought. The DI's aren't bad at all. The worst part is the PT (physical training), they push you so far you could swear you were about to drop dead. I've been here 3 weeks today and the DI' are starting to lighten up a bit. The first day they were crazy though, kicking everyone's shit around and screaming. The time here is going fast though. Sometimes it gets hard though, I'm wiling to bet 99% of this platoon has second guessed their decision to join the Marine Corps about 1000 times since they have gotten here, including me, but a lot of the time you don't have time to think. I came here a smoker, and for the 3 weeks I've been without a cigarette I haven't had one nicotine craving. We don't do as much physical shit as I thought we would. We have PT like every other day, and on off days we drill (march) and have class. We have a lot of classes here. We wake up at 4 am and go to bed at about 8 pm. The four best times of day are mail call, chow, free time, and lights out. Well, it's about time I did something else, running out of free time. Peace noobs. :smilie_flagge13:
(Lock asked me to type & post this letter for him. The only contact with the "outside world" is by snail mail. If you would like to write a note to Lock, I will print and mail to him. Peace, Lock's Mom)

Eh..Lock's mom came on here to a website with a bunch of random people to tell us how he's doing? Sounds pretty fishy to me.
In any case, BT isn't so bad.

If they're still doing it the way I remember, they start shooting in the second phase of boot camp. I'm guessing he's probably aiming and dry firing at a barrel right now.

I think bootcamp is a good thing for your little Lock, and a good thing for you also, gives you more free time to spend on the internet.
You get to meet some great characters on the internet, of this iīm sure you are aware Mrs Lock.
Well say hello from me to olībleeding eyes.

Mama lock,
Tell babylock (recruitlock) it is good to hear from him. And also tell him if he has beat the cigarette craving, then just stay away from them, don't even give it a second thought. I remember in boot camp (twenty years ago) guys went without cig priviledges for 6 or 7 weeks and as soon as they got them back, BAM! right back to smoking. I won't tell him the health risks, he should have heard those enough by now (although I did loose two grandparents to lung cancer!). Tell him to add up the money they cost him every week and put that money in a savings account and see how quick it grows. then tell him to blow the money on something worth while (camera, laptop, etc.)
He sounds like he is doing good. but if he gets down, just tell him to remember, it will end !
take care, jbb.

No, the Marine Corps uses M16s. I've only ever seen M4s issued to Staff NCOs and Officers who for whatever reason carry more than just a pistol. When I was in boot camp, we got old and crappy M16s, but I heard that they're issuing out the newer M16 A4 models in boot camp now.
The rest of our gear, like packs and other equipment, was Korean and Vietnam War era shit. Typically, the Marine Corps gets hand-me-down gear from the Army since the Marines' budget is far lower in ratio to the rest of the military.

Well most staff NCOs and Officers aren't really supposed to be out in the front anyway, so they only get a pistol sidearm. Isn't that how it is everywhere? Those that do go out to the front need something more compact than a rifle, which is why they get M4s.

Smoking is dying at an increasing rate.
There are so many places you can't smoke now. I dunno about other places but in australia you can't even smoke at the beach. You can't smoke in restaurants, you can't smoke here, you can't smoke there. At train stations, shopping centers. (I don't smoke btw)
And now they're turning their focus towards alcohol.. it has begun... the beginning of the end.
I mean I agree.. alcohol does nothing good. It is bad in every way. If alcohol were eliminated, so much would change.
But in the absense of one problem, another just raises it's head.
Look at the muslim/arabs. Alcohol is illegal or some shit over there.. at least it's against their religion.. but they're still crazy motherfuckers killing eachother because of religion.

HAHAHAHA...Bivwac or Bivouac?!?! Lol...it can be spelled either way!
OMG, I remember it well! In the Pine Barrens at Ft Dix, NJ...
digging holes in the Sand for a Foxhole..."War Games"...shooting Blanks... Flash Suppressors on the M-16... left over WWII "C Rations" each with a small pack of cigarettes (4 smokes in each) if you were lucky, you got Marlboro Reds, the Brothers would trade for Kools and Newports.
I remember on E-5 Drill Sergeant named Sgt Fanto...fucker looked like a short, fat, Pig! About 5'6" (or less) and was one mean, spiteful azzhole who abused his position horribly.
About 5 recruits or enlisted men jumped him in the middle of the night while out on Bivouac. They gave him a Royal Blanket Party, tied him up to a Tree and stuffed one of his dirty socks in his mouth. They found him about a day and a half later. He could not ID who it was who did it and transferred to parts unknown a few weeks later.
He ended up getting killed in 'Nam...some say by "Friendly Fire" :omg:

You canīt smoke on the Beach??, are you kiddin me? how the fuck they gonna enforce that stupid law ?
Even the pubs around here are starting to let the ban slide a bit, saying if the Government make laws that cannot be enforced why should they have to deal with all the shit, same with football stadiums, itīs illigal to smoke in them but everyone does. in a stadium full of 60, 000 screaming football fans someone having a ciggie is the last thing on the Stewerads and Policeīs minds, infact where I sit there is a large amount of stoners and we openly sit there and skin up and they never ever even bat an eye, and they hardly think we are making them for later not with the sweey smell of Skunk in the air.

You canīt smoke on the Beach??, are you kiddin me? how the fuck they gonna enforce that stupid law ?There's no law against smoking on the beach. You can't litter on the beach (without being a douchebag, or being fined) and there are no bins on the beach. I stash my butts until I get back to the carpark.
A little while back the Fremantle Business Association wanted to ban smoking on the cafe strip, so all the alfresco diners could eat in peace. This is like banning slingshots in a war zone: The cafe strip is constantly bumper to bumper with 'cruisers' showing off their wheels and stereos, and demonstrating their lack of good sense and taste in music. All those hotted up V8s exhausting along at 2km/h and they wanted to ban people exhaling spent tobacco by the mere lungful- get a clue!
Even the pubs around here are starting to let the ban slide a bit, saying if the Government make laws that cannot be enforced why should they have to deal with all the shit, same with football stadiums, itīs illigal to smoke in them but everyone does. in a stadium full of 60, 000 screaming football fans someone having a ciggie is the last thing on the Stewerads and Policeīs minds, infact where I sit there is a large amount of stoners and we openly sit there and skin up and they never ever even bat an eye, and they hardly think we are making them for later not with the sweey smell of Skunk in the air.I'm not a sports watcher, but in 2006 I did have a season ticket to Sydney FC. I never saw a single person light up in the stadium. Outside the gates at half time was wall to wall with hopeless cases like myself hammering in coffin nails.
I've no doubt at all that anyone caught lighting up whatever would be kicked out at the least, as they are from pubs and clubs.
Somehow I think that Lock's Mum has been justifiably dissuaded from this thread; probably this site- and with good reason. You should be ashamed of yoursleves- you know who you are! ;)
In case she hasn't: Good luck Lock. I hope your experience in the army is the best possible, and that you are never deployed to a conflict.
Remember one phrase: "I was just following orders." Kidding, totally kidding. :)
