We have the torch running thru SF tomorrow. I had a job walk in the city tomorrow that I had to cancel because I don't want to deal with all the wackos. What moron thought SF would be a good represtitive of the US. The cops should have shot and killed the douchebags who climbed the Golden Gate yesterday.

Maybe we should shoot the idiots who think represtitive is a word instead of the people willing to put their ass on the line to say something they believe in.

This whole Olympics in China thing has got to be the biggest sham in Olympic history. Yeah, let's hold the Olympics in a corrupt communist country that refuses to free Tibet and stands for everything that the Olympic spirit doesn't. Not to to mention they have some of the worst air pollution in the world. I seriously hope no athletes keel over dead during the competition. :omg:

The flame was supposed to be lit on Mount Olympus by focusing several beams from the sun to one central torch. It's supposed to symbolize summoning the athletes from all over Europe and providing them safe passage as they "run" to Mt Olympus for the games. All of this was written at the direction of Adolph Hitler in 1936 by a German doctor who was obsessed with Greek mythology. He made most of it up. The actual Greek history has the athletes running to Mt Olympus wearing a crown of olive tree branches which symbolize peace, so they were afforded safe passage through foreign lands without interference for political agendas or historic social clashes.

It's time to extinguish the torch and bring back the olive branch crown. Then all of the political zealots can STFU and go away.

Chinese athletes have already died because of the pollution, but the funny thing is that at one of the Olympics, China said that the countries air pollution was too bad and that they would probably not go until they fixed it, I don't remember what country it was but they did go to the games that year

I don't know man. This isn't the movie 300 and the Tibetans aren't Spartans. China could steamroll most nations by sheer volume. I say they did the best they could.

But seriously, I don't think protesting the torch is going to create change. Hell, Bush gets protested everywhere he goes and all we do is troop surge. Reverse psychology should be used.

There is no fighting over the Olympics. The Tibets and those who side with them are using the event as leverage to gain the worlds attention.

If not for the Olympics in China, nobody would be taking notice to Tibet, and what its going through.

But as far as that matter goes, I could care less about Tibet and their monks, anymore then I care about China and their abuse of animals. Both are whacked Nations to me.

I don't appreciate protestors all over the world asking their respective lands like Britian, USA, etc to boycott China or the Olympics.
If these protestors love Tibet so much, move home.. go the hell back.

These people, and Tibet should be talking to the UN and it alone.

The Lebs were doing similar when Israel was bombing them last yr.
I hate being cold about saying screw them, but we have our own concerns at home.

I agree and I disagree...
The monks in China keep protesting peacefully for democracy. What happens to them? They get shot at and killed by the Chinese government.

It's horrible that a nation as advanced as China (not that they rival any of the leading countries of the world) can be so primitive when it comes to human rights.

That being said, I don't think it realistic to waste our money to help them... But that isn't going to stop me be expressing my opinions about it.

I honestly can't offer an intelligent solution to this problem. Maybe they should just start offing Chinese government officials.

I don't give a shit about the olympics.

Its good to see that stupid torch get shit on.

Even better is seeing hippy pieces of shit get the smack down for their whiny protests.

Tibet is part of China. End of debate.

Any country would act the same as China in their situation. Thing is most countries arnt in that unfortunate position.

Quebec seperate from Canada? Umm no...1995 Quebec referendum the government had the army ready to squash any uprising in Quebec regardless of the referendums outcome. Yep, peacefull Canada was ready to roll over french protesters in a tank in a public square.

Think if a US state considered itself an independent nation. That would make Chinese oppression look like a hissy fit.

Hmmmmm that may have already happened.

These protesters are pussies trying to convince themselves that they are doing something to save the world.
So one day a year they make a stupid banner and attack someone that has nothing to do with what they're protesting against safe in the knowledge the worst that will happen to them is they get a free room for the night in the chokey, while the rest of the year they live their cushy lives made possible by the exploitation of some of the worlds poorest people.
If these arseholes wanted to make a difference they should create an insurgency into Tibet instead of patting each other on the back in starbucks at the end of the day for acting like dickheads.

No-one is going to free you from china. No-one wants to fuck with china, for a lot of reasons. So you aren't getting any damn help. So stop protesting.

No government would want to ruin trade relations with china, and no country would want to go to war with china.. so you lose.

No more protesting mmkay?... if you want you can start suicide bombing or something but we all know that won't do any good.

What do you expect us to do about Tibet? What have the protesters done for Tibet? Fuck all.
What they have done is ruined the day of the poor sods carrying the torch for a few miles.

China doesn't even have the capability to invade little Taiwan let alone somehow getting over to the US. The western world has lived and prospered under the protection the US has provided for the last 50 years and if they go no doubt we'll all be next, see how great you feel then.

I don't agree with you on the Taiwan issue here. The Mainland most certainly could invade Taiwan and retake it. The only thing preventing them from doing it is the Seventh Fleet and the US's implicit promise to protect Taiwan from invasion. Although China most certainly has fresher troops and is not stretched out like our military, a fight with the US would bloody China's nose and most likely end in a cease-fire. Hell, we have all those submarines just tooling around doing minimal stuff. Interdiction and picket lines are what they were built for (fast attack boats, but not so much the nuke boats, albeit they could do the job in a pinch).

As long as the US stays outside of invading and controlling territory (see Gulf War), they are in a superior tactical position versus China. Now invading China would be, of course, out of the question.

In a quick, no-finesse war, the US can steamroll most anybody. We have the technological superiority and battle-hardened troops. But holding territory and retaking land? Might be a problem. Especially without native support.

Hey, I agree whole hearted with you on the general matter.
For the harmless Monks who are no more a threat then Mahatma Gandhi, its impossible odds for them to fight off China.

This is very similar to Palestine or Lebanon being attacked by Israel and state of the art tanks/missles. Lebanon and Palestine don't have a snowball chance against Israel tanks, or shall we just say the best America can donate Israel. Yet all that CNN and BBC tell is how Hamas and other groups must be stopped to save the whole world.

Fact is broggi, though we can agree to sympathize with Tibet, nobody can save the world. This will continue till the end of time. Iraq will bully Kuwait, Israel bully Palestine, Russia the Ukraine, and so forth.

But I am dead set against protestors trying to use events and neutral nations to solve the matter.

The Olympics are the largest peaceful international congregation on the face of the planet, and so it should remain. Ideally, they should be free of political diatribe, and to make them a platform for opinionated discourse is both defeating the spirit of the games and deflating the aspirations of the thousands of athletes who have trained so hard to participate.

The disruption of the torch carrying is not a solution to a problem that has existed for decades. On the contrary, should the games proceed without incident, the world will be exposed to a country that has, to date, remained a ‘closed door’ nation and such publicity internally and to the rest of the world will not be left unfelt.

I do not condone China’s occupation of Tibet. However, to spoil an international celebration of athletic prowess for political means has proven, through history, to be pointless and inane. After all, is there any nation without sin?

China could fight us with pitchforks and still probably win. They have 25 citizens for every one of ours. They may not have technology to rival the U.S.' but they have sheer numbers. Not to mention that they own our economy. If they were to drop an embargo on the U.S., we'd be fucked.

Doubt anyone would be fighting with guns or pitchforks for very long before the nukes would come into it and then we would be waving goodbye to the human race :(

I don't think the Olympic games should have been given to China until they sorted out their human rights issues, after all human rights is more important than any damn games. As for the protesters I can see their point, the problem is most of the Chinese people won't know about the demonstrations, because it will be blocked out by the media under the orders of the communist Chinese government, there may be satellites up in the sky but when the red curtain is drawn the people who live under a communist government don't see what's happening around the world, they only see what their government wants them to see. So the protests may be all for nothing :( I really do hope that things get better for the people of China.
