Here's an update on Locklear for anyone who is interested. He had a really bad weekend last weekend, Senior Drill Instructor got pissed off at him about something he wrote in a letter home (he wrote that he was having a blast and the DI's are funny as hell) SDI PT'd the entire platoon for hours, then quarterdecked Lock for an additional two hours, and promised him a miserable time there. All that exercise caused him to get stress fractures in his hip and foot. He is now in the Medical Rehabilitation Platoon until he heals, and will join up with a new platoon when he is released back to training.

Thanks to all of you who posted on the Lock's Letter from Boot Camp thread, I copied & pasted all of the posts to mail to him, and I know reading it will make him laugh!

Damn, that's pretty rough. I know it's hard keeping a low profile sometimes. All those obstacles will only make it that much more rewarding though at the end of it all. If he's on the east coast, he's going to be crying with a real sense of accomplishment when he finishes the crucible. I know I did. Tell him to hang in there, and no matter how it seems now, there is a light at the end of the tunnel waiting for him.

This happened when I was in boot camp. This kid was on the phone with his parents on our first call home from boot camp and said something like "Yeah mom, the DI's are nice and I'm having fun." I can't remember what they did to him.

I think it's their job to create stress, confusion, and fatigue as often as possible. He is being trained to be fighting in wars or combat situations where shit is going on all around him, and he needs to have the ability to think normally in the most horrific and stressful situations. So, where others would freak straight the fuck out and curl up on the ground and cry....he will still be doing what he was trained to do. Hence the reason DIs stay on your ass....and even worse when you do something that can single you out from the crowd. I mean they gotta work with what people give em. It's there job to fuck with you as hard as possible and balance that with training. It's amazing what the human body can do when someone is there pushing you. I couldn't, on my own, work out so hard that I injure myself like that. Knowing that he refuses to give up only proves that he is gonna be tuff as nails.

Oh, good news... no stress fractures!! He was moved to MRP before it got that bad. Docs say his bones are weak from the stress of the muscles working. He will stay in the MRP for "a couple of weeks" then drop into a Platoon that is at the same training day that he dropped out on (or close to it). He's been out for a week so I hope next week he will be back in training.

I'm far more adept than you at seeing things from other people's perspective. I just don't agree with you. You are the one that is failing to see things from a gang member's perspective. Don't say I can't understand it because I haven't experienced it, I've been to summer camp. I know more about it than you. You were just recently a soldier, I've been soldier my whole life. Everyone isn't like me though, that's why they have boot camp. Boot camp is where they turn pussies like Locklear into men. That's all it is, forced manhood.
