We're painting and shit this weekend, the dining room and i'm super excited. I've never done painting, but it doesn't look very hard, they're just walls. The thing is, the paint is driving me crazy, its so fucking cheap, you can see strokes and shit and it picks up grease from your hands like that, its horrible, and cheap. Or maybe I just touch the walls too much? So yeah, white walls and flocked black wallpaper for the chimney. Oh we're painting the tiles around the fireplace as well, they're this horrible diahreah brown colour, with flowers, white. Also the radiators, they're chipped and a bit stained......white! Then we're going down to where they did the front room and getting an estimate for flooring and instilation. I love room makeovers, so much fun! well, they look that way on telly.

I'll try to post pics when it happens, may turn into a bit of a disaster though. Yay!

Hehe, good luck, I hate houseworky type shit.

The only time I ever tried painting was when my dad let me n my brother paint our own bedrooms with wood paint when I was about 10.

My mother came home, saw the landing carpet covered in paint and my lil brother trying to paint his walls with a stick from the garden n the shit hit the fan.

A drop cloth is always a safe option to protect your flooring and any furniture you maybe painting around. They have disposable ones real cheap if it's something you don't want to hold onto. Newspaper works good, too.

Your selection of paint finish can help any cleaning in the future. A flat finish will always be harder to clean and a gloss the easiest. Problem is I, like many, don't like glaring walls. A good compromise is a semi-gloss, or better yet an "eggshell enamel." These clean very easy and don't pick up the dirt like a flat finish. In any case, stir/shake the hell out of the paint to mix it good. It settles on the shelf.

Good brushes are generally worth the money. I used to go cheap when I was younger and now I go with quality brushes and they're worth it. Clean out your brushes when you're done and they'll last you many years. In the case of latex paint, it cleans up well with water and a hairbrush, which removes paint deep in the bristles.

Best to paint when the room is brightest during daylight, like when the sun is coming through the window, or on that side of the house. Painting after sunset works, but it's easier to miss coverage unless you have work lights.

Have fun, it's pretty easy like you say, the hardest part is prep and clean-up. Just some tips from longtime homeowner. :smokin:
