That doesn't make sense. So far as I'm aware, every elevator has a trap door in the ceiling for cases such as this. Also, did nobody know about this guy stuck in the elevator? Did he even bother to use the emergency phone in there?
Lastly, where did he pee?

lol yeah...I'm guessing he did piss but they took those parts out of the video.
What a cool guy though, remains calm, plays cards, waits it out. I always thought you could get out through a hatch in the roof though.

In most cases there is one, but it's only for maintenance. Besides maybe there was one but it depends on how the elevator was stuck, maybe the thing got stuck in such way you couldn't get out above the elevator.
I wonder how it went when he got out, what he was told afterwards.

Some elevators i've seen don't have roof hatches, you see him looking for one a few times. Its horrible to think how hungry, thirsty and lonely he must have been.

All elevators have them, they just hide them behind lighting fixture type things sometimes. The article says that in this case, the door was locked so he couldn't get it opened. Apparently most elevator trap doors are locked now to keep people from, "Surfing".

I read on a different site that he did open the interior doors to take a piss. Also he doesn't have to work anymore.

The guys life is in complete turmoil now, because of the carelessness of the building maintenance; there were eight workers who saw the security TV, and take notice in the video, maintenance men working on the other three elevators. WTF! I would have killed somebody coming out of there. His co-worker thought he left her there alone (without his jacket,) so she wrote some smart remark and taped it on his computer. There are so many people at fault.

Correction, his life is in turmoil because he made it that way. Shitty situation but even he blames himself.

Apparently you have never been trapped in a confined space no bigger than a small bathroom for 41 hours; there is a traumatic effect on the brain in such a case. They do not even do this to criminals! He blames himself only after the psychological effect of the situation wore off; it is not his fault it happened…and it is not his fault he went through the emotional withdrawal he went through after, even though he desires to have done things different. We are only human, not the invincible beings some think we are (especially at a younger age.) There was a tremendous amount of neglect from a multitude of people; how do you think it would have turned out if he had a medical condition (personally, I wonder if it was done on purpose?)
If it were me, dead or alive, that room would have been tore up; I would have been looking for something to pound a hole through that block wall. The guy had a terrible lawyer; if this was made more public, he would have received a lot more money. Stella Liebeck (http://www.filecabi.net/forum/stella.html) received more than half a million…and her situation was her fault…completely!
In conclusion, there is no need to correct me, but thank-you for your opinion. :)

I would have gone crazy :(. There is not much to keep you sane in that situation. Imagine how bored, frustrated and frightened he must have been in that elevator. Bloody horrible, that would be a nightmare, it was for him, but at least he got out in the end. I remember seeing a horror movie once, an old one with a guy stuck in a telephone box and he couldn't get out, in the end the telephone box he was in was one of hundreds with all the people having nothing more then skeleton remains.

You're right, I don't need to correct you. I'll let Nick do it for me.
"Still, he now sees that it wasn’t so much the elevator that changed him as his reaction to it. He has come to terms with the trauma of the experience but not with his decision to pursue a lawsuit instead of returning to work. If anything, it prolonged the entrapment. He won’t blame the elevator."

Nick is not a psychologist. You are quoting the concluding paragraph of a story, and like all stories, the objective is to keep the reader interested; that is why Mr. Paumgarten resurfaced this story to begin with.
On the other hand, if you yearn to use quotes in an attempt to impress, here is one: “At a certain point, Nicholas White ran out of ideas. Anger and vindictiveness took root. He began to think, they, whoever they were, shouldn’t be able to get away with this, that he deserved some compensation for the ordeal. He cast about for blame. He wondered where his colleague was, why she hadn’t been alarmed enough by his failure to return, jacketless, from smoking a cigarette to call security. Whose fault is this? he wondered. Who’s going to pay? He decided that there was no way he was going to work the following week.
And then he gave up. The time passed in a kind of degraded fever dream. On the videotape, he lies motionless for hours at a time, face down on the floor.”
Mr. White felt at the time of the interview, he made a mistake, just as a raped woman feels she made a mistake for warring something too inviting; should the guy who raped the woman go free because she dressed sexy? If he does not go free, is it her fault she does not feel redeemed enough to go on with her life as though nothing happened? Should a woman have to go out dressed in a burqa so not to tempt a man ? Nicholas White made decisions at a time he was in emotional disarray, that was triggered by the elevator incident: it is not his fault.
I am sure you are a very intelligent person, so I am sure, in time, you will understand. The internet has a vast amount of information pertaining to the human brain, and similar topics…and it is so easy to search nowadays; I can recall a time when the term “DNS Server” did not exist, and the few (mostly those in science and research) who had access to the network, had to enter the IP address (you cannot spell check numbers.) :)

"Loading up an empty elevator car with discarded Christmas trees, pressing the button for the top floor, then throwing in a match, so that by the time the car reaches the top it is ablaze with heat so intense that the alloy (called “babbitt”) connecting the cables to the car melts, and the car, a fireball now, plunges into the pit: this practice, apparently popular in New York City housing projects, is inadvisable."
Who the hell writes that into an article about this? Funny though..

Well if he hadn't eaten much before, and definitely wasn't eating the whole time, he could get away with not pooping for almost two days. Some people go several days when they develop poor eating habits. Or if you're a college student like myself, your school will overload your food with fiber so you poop multiple times a day sometimes :).
