In years gone by you wouldn't have even thought of doing something like this if you were a kid. This is a mixture of the stupidity of the system not letting parents properly correct their kids, words can only get you so far, but a hand across your ass is something else, also you get two parents working their too knackered to correct their kids, just buy them lots of toys and give them their own way so they won't bother you.

Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein was a pretty good book, mostly a social commentary rather than a science fiction piece. The basic premise is that the world has become a fascist state, where citizenship is not granted, but must be earned. Military service was one way to citizenship.

One interesting aspect from the book was that some women enlisted because they wanted to have the right to bear children. Couldn't have kids if you weren't a citizen. I think that's an interesting idea, given the Britney Spears' of the world and this vid clip.
