So yeah I get the mail today and a credit card offer comes through. Apparently, I can get an extraordinary credit limit of ....wait for it...£500 and it'll only cost me £14 a week in repayments. With an interest rate of 186.2% typical. Oh they tried baiting me with lines like "have a stress free Christmas!" Didn't work. I'm having a stress free Christmas cause NO ONE is getting anything. Christmas in the UK does nothing for me, everyone I know cares about the presents and that's it. Fuck that, I can just save money not buying you things and buy myself what I really want. Christmas nowadays, which i'm sure we won't be able to call it anymore in about 3 years, is so materialistic it truely disgusts me. It's for children as far as i'm concerned.

Who does that and why? Going into debt over a holiday where you give all your money away anyway. It's ludicris, I just don't understand the concept. Chris is kinda hurt by the decision as he likes Christmas with his family and they wallow in it. I keep a look on my face like a smacked ass and blame it on homesickness, never fails. Truth is we've got a visa application due by June which will cost no less than £2000 all together. I can not in good conciousness throw money away, not on a holiday that means nothing anymore.

Getting that application in the mail pissed me off.

Is 186.2% intrest even legal?

500 pounds is like $1000.

plus if you pay it off in full every month, no worries on teh interest

looks legit....

Don't know the laws in the UK, but I've never heard of such a ridiculous rate in my life. Johnny The Finger Breaker lends money at a better rate than that.

It's like $800 now, conversion rate isn't 2.0+ anymore, when we went a week ago it was something like.....1.6 +/-

Looks absurd to me......I'd rather sell my bone marrow than pay 186% interest. I know if you pay off the balance every month there no interest. They're targeting people who they know can't do that though. We're on some sort of list or something chris got one too.

No, not a big name that I recognized. Maybe a subsidiary or something like that but it was one of those tiny, unknown credit companies with a 5 word name. I don't care if they're brits or americans....it's all doodoos to me.

ok in my brief search through the Lords Handsard, Commons, and Lords documents, it appears there is a ceiling on how much you can be charged in interest. However, it doesn't state anywhere what that amount is.

and it appears that your politicians over there are trying to remove that cap because it's "not fair to the poor". LOL!!!

I only give presents when I find something nice and useful. Giving away neckties or a pair of socks is just a waste of money. In my eyes no gift is better than useless gifts.

In reguards to your rep. Imagine a copper coloured mixing bowl with an upside down tea set saucer (for kids) with a clit in the middle, both the colour of a dark chocolate bar.

ugh, yeah i read it too quick. my bad

"I agree with my friend the noble Lord, Lord Griffiths of Fforestfach, that capping interest ceilings will do the worst damage to the poorest people. I am sorry about that, but it is obvious. New ways will be found to lend money. People often say that usury should be banned and that we should move to an Islamic method of banking or something of that kind, but that would only rename interest as something else."

I don't know what the laws are like over there, but in the US contracts can be nullified if they are unconscionable.

In contract law an unconscionable contract is one that is unjust or extremely one-sided in favor of the person who has the superior bargaining power. An unconscionable contract is one that no person who is mentally competent would enter into and that no fair and honest person would accept. Courts find that unconscionable contracts usually result from the exploitation of consumers who are often poorly educated, impoverished, and unable to find the best price available in the competitive marketplace.

My advice is to shred credit card offers. Don't get a credit card.

Banks dont lend money out of the goodness of their hearts.
Nor do they wish to help YOU.

They do it in the hopes that you cant repay your monthly charge so they can rape yo with the intrest.

Unless you are a six figure income earning, jet setting, high corporate flyer... there is no need for a credit card.

Cash! It was good enough for my father, and my fathers father, and my fathers father used to barter with chickens and goats milk... but thats another story.

On the subject of Christmas;
I have come to find the joy in it again. I had to adopt a new family to get that though... but its full of lulz and cheer again.
Not that there is anything wong with this in a general way... but sitting around getting shit faced and listening to people bitch about other family members isnt my idea of a good Christmas day.
Those should be reserved for family BBQ's.
