Anybody have any suggestions? I'll likely get it from Bestbuy or maybe even Costco. I'd like to get one today.
I'm looking to spend about 700 bucks or so. I don't want anything too fancy. Just something to do my school work on and to watch movies, stuff like that. Above that I really only need something that'll be able to play a few games or two to keep me occupied on trips. Nothing special.
If anyone has suggestions, I would love you.

I know you probably want to get the computer ASAP, but you would be much better off ordering one from Dell or somewhere like that. You would probably end up with a better computer for the money that way since you don't have to get any unnecessary shit on it.

I've owned Dell laptops for the last 8 years or so, they seem to be decently reliable and not overly expensive
If I was going to buy one for myself, it'd probably be a Mac. The battery life on their hardware is generally better and running OSX with XP through Parallels, Windows apps run faster than they do native on a Windows machine

I have an hp that I'm on right now good if you want to customize stuff. overall pretty solid w/ tech support and all. no huge complaints other than the fact that my processor is crap and my graphics card is integrated in teh motherboard. no pc gaming for me.

I'd recommend you get a laptop. Nothing too fancy, just something that'll let you do some school work and occasionally watch movies. I'd be good if it was able to keep you occupied on trips. You know, try not to spend more than $700 or so.
I hope that helped.

well I can always get a PCI graphics card, but don't have the cash or processor to make it worth it. but still it kinda sucks, get a decent graphics card installed when you get it.

I haven't really had a problem with Vista, other than all the preloaded promotional bullshit that comes with a new computer.

My buddy has an insanely expensive XPS laptop that his work bought him, it fucking sucks when you consider the price
Airbooks are also expensive, and they're shite if you want to plug a bunch of stuff into it. If I ever buy my own laptop it'll probably be a MacBook or MacBook Pro. For now I just use whatever work leases for me, and they've all been Dells

Laptops suck, but if you want to take a computer around on trips, then I guess that's what you should go with.

Oh yeah, you just slide it into the PCI-E expansion slot (that's what she said)
and...oh wait, laptops don't have them! Well fuck my ass and call me Susan!

If it were my money I'd buy a Toshiba off of Newegg.com in the $700-800 range. One like this would be solid: Here (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834114505)
Everyone I know who has one likes it and says they are very durable. One of my friends lets his little girl have at it and she's yet to break it in 3 years now.
