Given a situation like that, with what looks to be a mentally unsound man threatening the officers with a lethal weapon and charging with said weapon upraised, they are entitled to use lethal force to protect themselves.

Sorry, wrong answer. Police provide, civil defense and law and order. The do not have a Prime Directive like Star Trek to let everyone be happy in their own way. You have rights as long as they don't infringe on someone else's rights and the brute squad, ahem, police come take your ass to jail which is basically taking you out of our civilization because you didn't participate in the law & order.

Have any one of you questioning these cop's decision to shoot the man even shot a pistol before, no less in a situation where your own well being is being compromised? Well If I was there I would have gone for the legs first, then followed up in the head/chest, but I wasnt there, so yeah... Still, even if one officer went for the legs, the rest proberbly went for upper torso, so it wouldent realy matter. :)

First of all i have to say i am a Cop although i live in Luxembourg (very small country in Europe) so please excuse my bad english.

This is a very difficult situation for a cop to be in. You have several seconds to think about it and lawyers can discuss about it for several months. So do u.

No, we don´t have tazers over here but we do have pepperspray and a tonfa as normal equipment.

The guy using pepper in this video clearly did the right thing in the beginning but as it did not affect the suspect there only remains the use of a gun.

Rubber bullet is definitely an option. If u dont have one, stays the gun.

U say shoot him in the leg. Ok with that, but over here you are not allowed to shoot someone as long as the guy does not threaten your life or the life of a third. If in this situation u are quick enough to aim for the leg, fine, but otherwise its going to be the torso or the head.

A guy who has a knife is a very dangerous opponent and you dont have much time to react. Believe me, i have been struck by a knife and there is never enough time. So in this case the cops had to shoot him down. Final point. Maybe he wantet suicide by cop, a very frequent problem.

But one shot from a shotgun should do it, but firing on the guy while this one is already laying on the Floor is definitely wrong.

If i would be in this situation, my first reflexion would be: I am going home to my family alive this evening, if this means to shoot down the guy, then he is gone. Sorry for that.
