IRVING, Texas - The World Football Challenge is coming July 26 to the Cowboys' new stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Not NFL football, but rather a showcase of two of the best soccer teams on the planet.
This summer, four elite teams - Chelsea Football Club, AC Milan, FC Internazionale Milano and Club America - will compete in the United States in the inaugural World Football Challenge, a six-city round robin tournament. On July 26, Chelsea will face Club America at the Cowboys' $1.1 billion venue (6 p.m. CT, ESPN2) - the second soccer match scheduled at the new stadium in as many weeks. On July 19, the Cowboys' stadium also will help host the CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal round.
The four World Football Challenge participants will face off at some of the most recognized stadiums across the U.S., including the Rose Bowl (Pasadena, Calif.), the Georgia Dome (Atlanta, Ga.), MT&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore, Md.), Gillette Stadium (Foxborough, Mass.) and Stanford Stadium (Palo Alto, Calif.). Match tickets are on sale at www.worldfootballchallenge.com (http://www.worldfootballchallenge.com/).
The World Football Challenge will give soccer fans the unprecedented opportunity to see global superstars such as John Terry, Frank Lampard, Michael Ballack, Ronaldinho, Kaká, Julio Cesar, Zlatan Ibrahimovich, Andrea Pirlo, Pavel Pardo, Guillermo Ochoa and Adriano play live in the U.S.
"We are delighted to be in the United States again for preseason," said Peter Kenyon, Chelsea FC chief executive. "This is our fifth preseason out of six that we have toured here and it is always a pleasure to see our fans and train and play in excellent facilities in great cities. Chelsea, of course, will bring a full-strength first team squad and with the quality of the opposition, and the backing of our partners, this series of matches will be the best preparation and the most high profile we have played in America." Said Michel Bauer, Club America president: "As President of Club America I am delighted to participate in the World Football Challenge. I know our fans in the U.S. and Mexico will enjoy such an exciting competition and watching our Eagles play against these elite European clubs. With so much talent on the pitch, it's going to be a competitive tournament and I'm looking forward to getting it started."

My only question is who to cheer for/against. I know Club America is one of those "clubs you love to hate" kind of like the New York Yankees and my beloved Cowboys are. But what about Chelsea ? are they a bunch of constantly winning pricks as well ?

I'm thinking about buying tickets to the Chelsea side, just to root against all the Mexicans that will show up. (sorry TGD)
