I am in high school, and for the purpose of the following "info" not seeming to have a biased opinion, I will not say which category i fall into.

1) Preps

Grades: Above Average - Excellent. Few exceptions.
Peers: Have many friends. Extremely Outgoing.
Sports: Excel in almost all. Soccer, Baseball, Basketball. etc.
Clothing: Polos, Sports Jackets, Destroyed Jeans, Sports Shoes, Low Cut Socks.
Relationships: Tend to be in one 50-70% of the time. Short relations to long.
Distinctive Characteristics: Extremely friendly. Will accept many other cliques.
Futures: Low acceptance Ivy League schools - to community colleges. Likely to get married, have kids, and live a life.

2) Emo

Grades: Abysmal - Average
Peers: Average amount of friends - alot of friends.
Sports: Not gonna happen.
Clothing: Black, Black, Black. with the occasional outburst of vibrant color. Converses - shoes. Slightly torn jeans with writings (done by themselves on them)
Relationships: Tend to fraternize with long time friends. Will plunge into a time period of depression after breakups.
Distinctive Characteristics - partiall colored hair - solid. Love to write poems and songs. even the males. Over analyze their emotions and will post many blogs online about it.
Futures: Community College. Little exceptions. other may vary.

3) African American Community (ie. gangsters, players, pimps)

Grades: Abysmal. Exceptions are possible.
Peers: Many. Always tend to be black. or hispanic.
Sports: Football and Basketball
Clothing: Baggy shirt, baggy jacket, baggy pants. white shoes. LOTS OF SHINY STUFF.
Relationships: Tend to be in one 50-70% of the time. Short relations to long.
Distinctive Characteristics: Perhaps only friendly to preps. Other cliques do not exist to them. Language is distinctive.
Futures: Dropout - Community College. Possibility of becoming a player, rapper, pimp, drug dealer, etc.

4) Wiggers

Grades: Abysmal. Exceptions are possible.
Peers: Few - Many. Mainly blacks who tolerate them.
Sports: Football and Basketball
Clothing: Baggy shirt, baggy jacket, baggy pants. white shoes. LOTS OF SHINY STUFF.
Relationships: Almost never. When it does exist, it is not pretty.
Distinctive Characteristics: Try as hard as possible to act black. Tend to be white. Hated by almost all, and refuse to acknowledge it.
Futures: 50% = getting shot. 50% = dying alone and homeless.

5) Nerds, Geeks, etc

Grades: Extremely high, nearing a average of a perfect hundred.
Peers: Few, mainly study buddies and fellow nerds
Sports: chess?
Clothing: corduroy pants, button up shirt with pocket protector, leather shoes. etc.
Relationships: Almost never. When it does exist, it is not pretty.
Distinctive Characteristics: extremely nice when talked to but hard to fine common interests. be careful on how u act towards them. u may end up working for them.
Futures: extremely positive. will probably end up growing out of geeky perspective into an average american dad with a HIGH paying job.

There are many more stereotypes. if u think of one tell me.

PLZ DONT TELL ME THAT I AM A STEREOTYPICAL ASSHOLE. this is just my thoughts on cliques and social groups in schools nowadays.

Whoever was the original poster of the topic doesn't matter.
What matters is that the group that people thought that I belonged to is MISSING!
1) We wore Jeans before Jeans were in style (because they lasted and were cheap!)
2) Our jeans were purchased in a size that we would "grow in to.." thus the pants were to long and had to be rolled up into cuffs.
3) We wore work boots or Chuck Taylors Converse All-Stars (they had to be Black High top)
4) We wore "T" shirts to school because our family couldn't afford the school shirt.
5) We never carried books, were always late for classes, were in DETENTION daily and we smoked in the bathroom.
6) When it was cold, our jacket of choice was either denim or leather.

What are we.....GREASERS of course! 8)
Are they an EXTINCT breed in schools today?

A few questions and then I'll shut up.

Why do we feel the need to stereotype each other? And if you actually feel the need to, why would any category be better or worst than another? No matter which pigeonhole you fall into, you're still human and you still feel, you still have emotions and you still thrive to be happy in your own way. It's who you are as a person that's imminent, not how society demarcates you...

1. Why do we feel the need to stereotype each other? 2. And if you actually feel the need to, why would any category be better or worst than another? 3. No matter which pigeonhole you fall into, you're still human and you still feel, you still have emotions and you still thrive to be happy in your own way. 4. It's who you are as a person that's imminent, not how society demarcates you...

As answered by one who still is in high school and surrounded by the hypocrisy of the system;

1.Primal need to assert our own superiourity against others when there is no real conflict around us.

2. My category is better than your category because it's mine and I'm better than you, so nyeh.

3. I want to be happy at other people's expense, because, frankly, I don't give a shit about you. Other than that I want to hurt you. To feel superiour. Nyeh.

4. Who's de-marking me??? Oh, we'll see who de-marks who around here! I have a Latino locker to poop in during gym!

The real answer:

The average human teenager/young adult is irrational, vindictive, and aggressive. Those that aren't get jumped all over and marginalized. They don't get dates to Prom either, and get lied to and disrespected without ever managing to land a single fucking date throughout all four years of it because they aren't smart, pretty, or artistic enough for anyone.

Basically, because High School sucks balls and life after ain't less gayer.

Tch. We're teenagers. There's no "deeper" with us, even if we pretend there is. Unless we're cancer patients or closet homosexuals.

Pardon me, I'm a little bitter.

I haven't been a teenager in quite awhile...

But from what I remember, I've always had the same philosophy of life... I was well liked by most of my peers yet I didn't judge people for what they seemed to be.

I guess during my younger age I had to grow up a tad faster than most people...

I think it's because "Preps" tend to be considered the shallowest of all of the cliques, as in the ones most obsessed with popularity, money, and good looks to the exclusion of most else.

That and "preps" also seem to be perfect in every way to a lot of people and most people don't like feeling inferior to anyone, much less in every possible way.

I have to side with Big Ozzie execpt when we were in school the title greaser had become "hoods". this is basically the rockers and metal heads that try not to fit in. or that was our excuse. like bigoz said, it was really because we were poor and made due with what we had.

Preps were our mortal fukin' enemies.

My high school was severly segragated and extremly racist to all differences.

Are they still that way?

They didn't teach you how to SPELL either!
They taught me when to use capital letters though.
And my brain...

The use of CAPITALS for EMPHASIS on certain words is often used in an informal text. There is some discussion amongst scholars as to the actual correct usage of upper case lettering. While it may not be incorrect to use capitals in this way, most agree that it tends to slow a reader down as he views the text. Jack Lynch has written: "Mixed upper-lower case is easier to read, since the eye recognizes the overall shape of the words, with their ascenders and descenders. ALL CAPS simply appear as blocks, and readers have to slow down to figure them out."
So, it appears that my use of CAPITALS forces one to "use their brain" in order to decipher the text at the cost of taking more time to accomplish this feat.
Anyone who has studied Paleontology 101 knows that the T.REX (which we know is an abbreviation and should be capitalized) is known for their small cranial capacity.
Therefore, in the future I will attempt to refrain from the use of the upper case letters to emphasise a word, so that we all can read the text without slowing down to think!

Complaints about improper grammar usage in this forum should be addressed to Helen Waite.

So, if you don't like my posts and want to complain about them.......
Go to HELEN WAITE!

(heehee) I will try to comply with your requests. Even if the constant flow of misspelled words, improper English and sentence structure found in some posts is an abomination to an educated person. The use or misuse of upper case lettering seems trivial compared to the context of the writings submitted. But I will try.
My job requires that all entries be done in upper case format. Why, I do not know. It does seem rather strange at that. When entering updates in my other business, we capitalize the important words, leaving most of the dialog in lower case. Then, when reading an update, you can skim across the paragraph, picking out only the upper cased words and still get the gist of the entire entry.
So let's see how I do.

lol I'll take that as a compliment, Thank-you! I really was not sure who Bill Nye was other than he supposedly taught kids how to make bombs on public TV. Looked him up on the internet, interesting character he is! Very intelligent and appears to have knowledge in a wide variety of topics (mostly in the sciences), not as good looking as I am (but that is OK). It is a shame that I missed him growing up, I would have been a fan!

If I knew how I probably would. But I don't so I can't (be thankful). I have not graduated to that level of computer usage, although I have experimented with it when sending e-mails. Remember, I have only used a computer in an expanded way (internet, e-mail, etc) for 5 months now. Everything I have learned is self taught. I never took any computer courses in any of my schooling, I was "computer-phobic" as they say. I only learned how to type, save and print about 2 months ago, and know nothing about cut and paste, downloading, etc, etc. But I am slowly learning with experimentation and those self help disc's from that Professor guy.

I think I fell into the stereotype of "Absent"

and when I was in class I was generally wearing my usual clothes, baggy pants/hoodie every season except summer, when it would be baggy pants/long shirt.

Only a handful of friends in the school, most of the peers had left school and were working factory work or apprenticeships, others were a few years older.

Grades were abysmal.. I'd ace all the tests, but never do homework, and hardly ever show up to class. (Lots of notes from teachers, and phone calls: "Josh could easily get top grades if he made an effort to come to class and do assignments/essays" lawl).

Also turned up drunk on many occasions.

Could probably also refer to this stereotype as "Failure".. lol

I think there oughta be a category for "I don't care" kids. I fell into that category.

I was your average joe, played football but wasn't a jock. In a decently wealthy family, wore average clothes like your t-shirts and jeans. Didn't particularly go out of my way to impress anyone but had a decent amount of friends, mostly just close friends. Had my fair share of the ladies, and got by.

"Preps" can be extremely sweet and bubbly, or, they can be extremely bitchy and slutty. Just depends on the person.
That group is either hot or cold.

I've tryed having a conversation with various "emos". More than usually they don't want to be seen socializing because that would be totally bad for their lonely image.
But alot of times they are soft spoken and nice to be around.

My school is more like a melting pot, all the cliques hang around each other and stuff. I guess because my school has about 3,000 kids running around.

My school's "percentages" It's going to go over 100% but just get the idea lolol

Preps: About 70%
My school is FULL of those types; some nice some jerks.

Gangstas: About 40%
Usually hanging around the preppy kids or fellow gangstas. Most pretend others don't exist, a handful are really cool and smart though.

Posers: 20%
Annoying as hell. They like to wear hot topic crap and listen to poser bands. There are virtually NO actual punks, goths, metal heads or anyone who doesn't think good music comes from MTV

Jocks: 20%
Most "jocks" are preppy but you can find alot of hard-core meat heads. Usually high in school spirit and easy to get along with.

Skaters: 20%
Most are poser-like but like to skateboard. Usually really stuck up and heckle people, hang out with lots of posers.

Church kids: 5%
The Christian kids who wear church T-shirts and crosses. Usually in the choir or band. Usually pretty nice, hang out with alot of posers.

Nerds: 5%
Some poeple call themselves nerdy, but actual "nerds" aren't common in my school.

Wigger: 2%
Amazingly small group in my school. Usually accepted by gangstas.

Punk: 1/2%
There are only a handful of people who know anything about punk rock in my school. Very sad.

Goth: 1/2%
Close to no real goths in my school.

Metal Heads/Rockers: 1/2%
A small handful of real metal heads. Always happy to talk about music and are usually hearty and love electives.

That's pretty much my school. Dominated by "preps" and "gangstas" and posers. I have no group.
