I've chatted to many mid-Western Americans over the 'net who swear blind (out of no discernable prejudice of their own) that the reserves are one step away from slums, with a large percentage of the population being chronic alcoholics. I understand it to be the same case with indigenous Aboriginal populations in Australia and New Zealand.

WTF happened? Is it a lack of responsibility on the part of the proposed "invaders"? Lack of funding? Why has integration not succeeded as it should have?
