Tattoo's yes or no?

I didn't want to spamm into vertical's topic, so I just made a own.

Well I always wanted to have a Tattoo, I already would know where and what I wanted, but I never got the nerv to inform myself for costs and so on, but not the money should the fact I want to know about, I just get mad, when I see people running around with tattoo's that they just made, because it "looked cool" or "it was soooo cuuuutttteee", for myself a tattoo should be something that reminds you of some kind of special time/date/situation or something you believe in, not like this masses of idiots, that run around with chinese letters, because they think it would be nice to have it....
anywaywhat do you think is a tattoo something good or is it just stupid to make such things?

I was thinking just today a black heart on one of my shoulders or perhaps in between my shoulder blades. Representing Love and Despair all at once. Honestly reflects my life the way I have always lived it. I was such a happy child but always a bit on the... odd side. My mom said strange things used to happen around me when I was little. And they still do. My own grandmother said I should have my dead great aunt's crystal ball. That was years ago she's pasted away since then and the ball and it's black cloth are not mine. An uncle of mine has it now. I might have to get one of my own. All sorts of that stuff runs through my mom's side.

An old Bar trick that I won quite a few bucks off until word got around......ALSO one of the most PAINFUL tattoo's I ever got! Didn't think it would be bad seeing as I have slept through many of them. But this one Burned like a Bitch!

Why don't you GOOGLE Steve O, Bam Margara, Wild Boyz and Jackass "The Movie", there should be plenty of sites to check their ages. I am not sure how old Bam is, I partied with him for a little at a bar in West Chester, Pa one time. Never got personal enough to ask his age, then all the groupies and he little chickies swarmed him and I just walked away. Ryan Dunn was with him be we did not speak, I guess I didn't show that I was all that impresed with them, didn't offer to buy them a drink or anything.

I was sitting down already, but yea, I fainted. I have such an intense fear of needles that I have to leave the room if one appears on tv ect.

I once refused to let dentists inject me so I could have extra teeth out once. So I had to travel to another dentist and have gas. :oops:

Anyway, the Jester/Fool is because I take very few things in life seriously.

I'd think you'd want to be fully concious while getting a tattoo. Actually I've heard some tattoo artists say that if you faint they'll just keep going.

I feel I must interject my opinion and expertise if I may....since I do have a lot of Body Art, some of which took hours if not days (repeat visits) to complete I feel that I am qualified (as well as other members who have already commented) to post on this subject.

1) Always find a reputable tattoo artist that has experience in his/her trade. DO NOT BE an "apprentice's" easel.

2)A reputable artist WILL NOT put a tattoo on someone who is or appears to be INTOXICATED, INEBRIATED or UNDER THE INFLUANCE OF DRUGS (either legal or illegal) nor will he do it when you are sedated by "gas".

3)Many Tattoo Artists WILL continue to do their work once they have started, IF YOU FAINT, but after you come to!. Fainting is temporary and a person usually regains consciousness immediately when they become prone (in other words, they wake up shortly after their ass hits the floor). A person who doesn't waken is either drunk or under the influence and any decent artist will NOT work on an UNCONSCIOUS subject.

4)These are old stories that have survived and been revived over the years from the old days of drunken sailors walking into Tattoo Parlors and Passing out to waken up and find that they have been used as a practice easel for the local skin artist. This shit just does not happen any more. Tattooing has become a real art, with real artists in clean, sterilized surroundings. Many cities now require the Health Dept to inspect and certify local Tattoo or Piercing Parlors. These artists make a comfortable living if they are good, and they are not going to screw it up by unsafe or questionable procedures.

5) When checking out artists, check out their work. DO NOT JUDGE by photos of tattoo work on the wall or in the "Flash" books (Flash is what you call all those tattoo drawings on the walls or in large notebooks, usually numbered or coded for selection). This flash can be purchased (and is by ALL artist) on line, in magazines and at one of my favorite shows...THE TATTOO CONVENTION. Many times you can get a flash design with a copy of a photo of the design on flesh. That does not mean the artist did the work. Decide by reputation, talk to people, look at the work done by the artist on a LIVE BODY. This will give you a feel for the artist!
Artist have different techniques and touch. I have an incomplete Tattoo on my chest that I designed myself. There are 5 Eagles flying in the air with mountains , the sky, clouds and the sun in the back ground. Two of the Eagles are fighting in mid-air with a third coming in on the fight. The artist who started this is nicknamed "Heavy".....I always thought it was due to his weight. WRONG! It was due to his touch! When he did my chest, it felt like the ink was going through my ribs, through my back and into the chair I was sitting in! When his partner did some of the Eagle work, it felt like he was drawing on me with a pencil....it almost tickled! So all artists are different in technique and style. Some are old school (classic flash, heavy line) some are black and grey tones only (like charcoal drawings)
others prefer Oriental or South Pacific (tribal) styles.
Whatever you decide to get, think about it a long time, decide on colors and location and while the artist may give advise, you are paying them to do what you want. If you do not like what the artist has said or suggested...FIND SOMEONE ELSE!

6) Eat something at least 2 hrs before, drink water only, take no aspirin the day of the tattoo (alcohol and aspirin thins the blood and you may bleed like a PIG!) If you feel faint, sick to your stomach, nauseous, have to go to the bathroom or have to FART say something. They are always willing to take a break. A sudden faint can cause sudden movement and slippage with the gun....the same as when you were writing that final copy of your English Composition and someone knocks your elbow! OOOOPS! :shock: But now it is permanent!

In conclusion and since I almost got off topic......Tattoo "Needles" are not really needles like a Doctor would give you. The gun is shaped like and is about the same size as a glue gun. In it are one (fine line) 3 (heavy line) or 5 (shading) "needles" that are changeable go in and out at a fast rate of speed, which is adjustable by the artist. The rate of speed, depth of penetration (also adjustable) and pressure of application (as well as sharpness of needles) all contribute to how much "PAIN" is felt. Most artists sterilize their needles in an Autoclave or pressure cooker...some use a new needle with each tattoo...all depends on the artist.
In the "old days" many artist made their own needles by soldering a sewing machine needle to a turkey skewer, and resharpening the needle every few days. Id rather not go to any phobia classes. At the end of the day a needle still pierces your skin and pumps something in, which is vile. Phobia classes aint gonna change that.

Anyway.... Yes what tattoo ideas do you have for yourslef? I really adore the idea of the map on your back Andrex! I think that would really cool and incredibally unique. That's not really somthing you would really "grow out of" like a butterfly or a Chinese Symbol...

I wanna get a tattoo but I don't think the black heart on the shoulder would look good because it could look like a weird blob or somthing. I had this idea of an outline of a heart on my wrist but then I saw Bam Margera sporting one that was up side down. Grrr

Did the Tattoo cause the swelling that you mentioned or was it already swollen?
Sometimes the Tattoo artist has such a grip on the recipient that they can actually cause major bruising.
When I had my chest done, there was an "L" shaped black & blue mark from the artist leaning on me and pulling the skin tight!

That would be a good idea. People say I'm pretty mature I think I could make a desicion now and then get it when I'm older.

But I'm going down to the tattoo parlor as soon as I get my Student ID because I'm gonna get the cartilage in my left ear pierced I need the ID because it's brand-new law in Texas that requires for any cartilage piercing that you must be at least 16, have a form of photo ID, and a parent/guardian must be present the reason is that Texas thinks any cartilage is considdered a "facial" piercing it's an extremely ignorant law. And no way in HELL am I letting the people at "Claire's" (little girl place that 7-year-olds get their first lobe pierce that sells crappy ass jewelry) pierce it! I'm getting it done professionally. Besides I want two rings on the part of the ear. Last time I tryed to do that a couple years ago the dumbass at Claire's didn't know what I was talking about so I got the hell outta there... Can't wait to go to the parlor and have a professional do it... I wanted at first to do it myself but I was hesitant... I can't wait to see the tattoos and look at the one's I might want one day...

My brother, sadly, is a complete idiot about his tattoos. The first one he got was at some hick-ass place in Tennesse called, I remember, Alley Cat Tattoo. He got a cheesy-ass American flag on his shoulder that looks like if he where to shower it would wash off, it's supposed to look like it's "waving" but it looks wrinkly and the white hardly shows and theirs some stupid words that say "These Colors Don't Run" Well they certainly do look like they would :lol:
The second was a graduation gift from sombody (most likely done at the same place) it's a blue dagger with the words "No Fear" on his ankle. I asked what No Fear meant he said "nothing! I just like it!" Well this one is FAR less chaeesy then the flag but sadly enough... His friend Jimmy got the same one on his arm.... Ewww.
Since being deployed to Germany he has gotten a new tattoo he tells me it a "Keltic Cross" aka an Irish Crusifix. Taking up majority or his fore-arm. Now I hope it looks better than the first two but... He doesn't speak a lick of German! So I dunno if he took the time to find a quality parlor, probably not since he didn't even take the time to do it in English the first to two times! Anyway I'll make him send me a pic from his phone to me...

They're quite expensive but somthing that's going to stay on your body forever needs to look good! He does some good work! They looks more like drawings and art rather than ink on skin... I got one on my upper arm which shows a sun and our planet in the middle of it and one on my chest, that reminds me of a very good friend who now lives in switzerland, we lived together for over a year and he almost got the same type on the other side of his chest :

So, yeah, my entire foot was purple because the picture was taken as soon as I got home. I had'nt washed it yet because my skin felt like sand paper. The artist was wiping ink off and it obviously all does not come off. It takes about 2 days for the tint to totally wash away.

I am allergic, you should see that same tatt now. Very lack luster, shady, it looks like it was done with colored pencils. The ink just falls off. I'm getting probably all of my tattoos removed. Except for one, he's a bird and he's fucking wonderful! Not the blue one on my back but another one. I may keep the rosary on my foot as well, but that all depends you know. I took out all my piercings but one as well. They just get on my fucking nerves. The only one I left in is my industrial ear, my birthday pressie to myself when I turned 18.

Well, my first one turned out just wonderful, it was lovely and in all black. The next two were on my feet and they weren't so great. We just chucked it up to, feet are difficult and the artist who done mine said his had to be done several times as well. The last one came about on my lower back and it was awful. There was clearly a reaction, my skin was like dryed hahahahahaha wax. Waxy but flaky, I was so upset. I immediately looked at removals. It has calmed down and it now just plain ole' skin but it does NOT look good. Its dark and the only thing you can see is the outline. So with that said............yeah. That explains it and it explained that indeed my feet were just rejecting the ink. The rosary looks okish but its .......I dunno. I might keep it. I can't be a doctor though with this giant cross and rosary beads from my foot to my leg. We'll just have to see.

see what i want to do is get older to see if my belief in these tattoos are still as strong as they are now, so i won't regret that shit later. and it's nothing like some random design or a cool looking object, it's a couple of things i'd get on each shoulder that represent stuff i'm into.

i need to learn more about the medical aspect of getting tattoos, fuck i might talk to my doctor about it the next time i see him but he's probably going to be anti-tattoo.

If there's somthing you would truley want to tattoo on your body go ahead. but waiting is also good. you don't need to go to the doctor all you need is some research. Go look up some safety-tips for getting tattoo'd. You'll be fine

There are many people out there who feel that the human body is made in God's image and is a Temple and should not be defaced.
