View Full Version : Should Homosexuals/Lesbians be allowed to legally "marr

Merrillizer, our head mod posted in another topic:
"Marriage is fuckin' stupid, and so is arguing about who can and cant do it!"
Good argument, poll included......any comments or viewpoints?
Personally, I feel that the term "Marriage" should be kept between a man and a woman.
I believe that Homosexuals, Gays or Lesbians have the right to commit to each other in a binding ceremony celebrating the union of two people OR be bound together by a Government figure who they chose to officiate, such as a Judge or Mayor or who ever is legally allowed to approve such a "union". Or to be bound into this "union" by a member of the clergy, should they decide to go that way and the church of their choice is willing to do it.
BUT, I feel that the union itself should be called that.....a union, NOT a marriage. The term "Marriage" should be left for those of the opposite sex.
I also believe that this "Union" between two people should have all the rights and responsibilities of a heterosexual marriage. Including spousal benefits from insurance, health, major medical, life or death policies and SSI benefits at the time of retirement.
But also with all of that comes, spousal support, alimony, child support (if any), property settlement and lawyer costs to get a D.I.V.O.R.C.E.

No, Marriage is something that happens between a man and a woman, allowing same sex couples to get married would change the very nature of marriage.
I have no problems with same sex couples having something similar which is legally the same as marriage though. This is the case in the UK, its called a Civil Partnership.
I dont have a problem with gays and lesbians in general, aslong as any bedroom activity is kept behind closed doors ect.
Personally I find the whole idea of marriage a waste of time, but if it makes a long term girlfriend happy, id play along.

Well, I don't have a problem with gays or anybody really, just EMO kids. However, marriage just seems like an excuse to validate something that isn't necesaarily positive in the public eye. So I think they figure well, if we can do this like straight couples then more people will accept homosexuality as being normal.
To me, marriage is between a man and a woman, period. Gays could be allowed, as previously mentioned, to have a civil ceremony just to prove their love and commitment for each other just like straight folks, but only a few of married priveldges. being on the other's insurance and dividing of property once divorce comes around but that's pretty much it. Gays having kids is another topic that i'm not trying to step into. But whatever, as long as America doesn't end up like canada over gays i'm happy. Well, I don't really care as of next month I live in the UK. hmm....

This sounds a little over reactive, but i say they should be able to marry, let them be ignorant, get aids and die and makes this world less populated.

I dunno. I try to be open minded but it just doesn't seem right to me. So I have to say no.

does it matter? will it change anything? no these married couples are still humans and still have to pay their taxes and meet the same requirements as others, and since people enjoy filming/watching humans have sex with animals, is this really that bad as it seems?
no!
people running for office or for positions in our government have troubles or no troubles because of this deep down pointless argument, why? because of their position on the matter for example:
uh bob dole (>.< for lack of a better name right now)
takes a stand on the "issue" of gay marriage and states that he does support it, now because of this one position, his campaign could end in a failure on a state like alabama where the act is fobidden and probably looked down upon, where as in california (think san franscisco) he could get major support because of the less conservative views in the city, now this tells you that waaay too much emphasis is put into this stupid matter, two males/females are getting married, so the fuck what? the world isnt going to end, the laws for the married couple does not change, in the big picure it doesnt really matter at all!
But the argument comes from religion and the fact that gay marriage "destroys" the "uh sanctity"(rofl) marriage----my ass
The religion excuse is crap because people have the doctrine of woman and man so drilled in their fucking heads that they wont allow anything that aspires something different than their own beliefs, to that i say STFU
get a life, let people marry in the same sex and if same sex marriage is going to bring on the apocalypse, then bring it on
Since right wing christian and other relious groups are such "good" people then you should welcome the coming of your savior
uhhhhhhhh im at work so maybe ill add shit to this later-maybe

As far as I understand marriage is a bipartisan union recognized by a CIVIL AUTHORITY.
Two homosexuals should be able to go to their registration office and declare themselves MARRIED, reaping the same rights as any other heterosexual couple.
You want to get married in a church? Tough shit. Become a clergyman and start campaining. That's you and your church's problem. In the meantime the loving secular state which you inhabit is more than willing to provide you with all the incentives and acceptance you need. :)

Who here is so arrogant that they think that their "right" or "wrong" morality should be forced upon others concerning something as trivial and stupid as marriage. Honestly in a Free and Open society if someone wants to marry a frog or a treestump and if the frog or treestump doesn't mind then by all means go ahead! What are you afraid of? All the "gays" and "lesbians" moving into your house and you'd be forced to watch their escapades behind closed doors? Honestly, the rednecks in this country disgust me with their unkept and filthy behavior and no one's petitioning their removal.
Let people live any damn way they choose unless it hurts someone else. They can hurt themselves all they want. Now I'm not saying gay/lesbian marriage is "hurting" themselves, quite the opposite. With all the miserable and unhappy people in the world who live in heterosexual marriages, if you can find two people who are happy together and they're gay, who the fuck am I to tell them "no you don't"?
Especially government. Get that the hell out of anything if possible.
And I love the religous comments (pun intended). If God is "Love" and two people "Love" each other (not the verb meaning sex but the relationship between two people) then without opening a bible someone explain to me how God (the most intelligent being in the universe) is going to "hate those dirty fags" and destroy them from the face of the earth.
If "sin" is a slippery slope then why doesn't God throw a burning mountian of fire on our capital city for the hundreds of thousand of dead innocent people thanks to our wars? Why don't we try to feed the poor or save the homeless or reach out to people hopeless wasted away on drugs?
When no children are starving to death in the world, THEN lets starts cleaning up the "gay problem" in this country. Lets make some realistic priorities for a change.

who cares if its called a marriage or a civil union all your doing is changing the name. This is suposed to be a free country " ya right". Gays have been around from the begining of time, they should have the same rights as everyone else. We need to take the bible out of our goverment " seperate church and state". Let these humans live like red blooded americans, FREE.

How about everyone just worries about what is right or wrong for THEMSELVES. Who gives two turds if two gay men or lesbian women want to get married? Christ if anything i'm happy for people who have found someone to share thier lives with. And i've got MUCH more to worry about than if Dan and Steve or Susan and Betty want to be married. How the fuck does it effect anyone BUT the people being wed? What we have here is a case of everyone just pointing fingers at eachother and judging.

JAKE95 is right, so why if they get married? thats their problem, church allways banned gay people, not its time to make them know that being gay is no problem
rite? we got african babys startving to death, we got indians dying for cold, but HEY what about gay marriage?
pffffffffffffff
