You are so right, "saschop" that was friggin weird....made no sense! Rather sad, too. You do not have to be Black to feel the pain of Prejudice, I have felt it just because of my size, my image, my tattoos....often by parents when I help their child much the way this man did.
Some have told me afterwards that they were just afraid of me at first....yeah right, like I am some kind of Rabid Dog foaming at the mouth!

yep. i dont think that was racist. it sure is about racism, but its not racist itself. id even say its against racism, since theyre advertising a black herbal toothpast, by saying appearence can be deceiving when it comes to human beings too.
and yea Big Ozzie, youre right when you say you dont have to be black to feel the pain of prejudice. indeed. but since theyre not selling a big sized tattooed toothpaste, i guess they had to cast a brother for this one, buddy...

Many blacks may take offense to this commercial because the black guy was portrayed as some kind of monkey or gorilla, the way he climbed up that pole. Blacks do not like being called monkey or gorilla it is insulting.

Maybe you should lose some weight and not try to look so scary then people will not prejudge you?

DUDE Wendal,
By my size I did not mean my weight...although I am overweight, I do not look like the Michelin Tire Man or the Stay Puff Marshmallow Guy...I am 6'3" 300+lbs and used to play both the defensive and offensive line in American Football.
Some people just "Judge a book by its cover", be it skin color, hair length, height, weight or the way you dress!
I am sorry to say that if it were not my size, than it would be the tattoos, or the Goatee, or the short hair, or the sleeveless shirt or something else that they would find to discriminate against.
I should change my image the way another man should change his skin color?
I Think NOT!

That left me very confused!?
Uh oh
July 1st, 2006, 01:25 PM
i saw this commercial a while ago on the computer and i was just as confused.
now i can say this commercial is horrible, wow. at the end the guy sleeps on the toothbrush and turns into the black toothpaste... in order to advertise their black toothpaste they had to use the example of a black person being prejudiced against.

it's definetely not racist....
but.... what da.... i dont get this commercial....
one of those weird commercial...@_@

"appearence can be deceiving when it comes to human beings too."
but how did this black man appear? Did he appear dangerous or criminal or whatever? didn't he appear normal, and an above average pole climber.. but that's besides the point.
how was his appearance deceiving? being black means that you're not helpful? and that this guy was special because he was black but STILL helpful?
aye, this commercial is definetely racist.
nope i dont think thats the point of the commercial.... its like: black guy was helping little girl, then comes mother and thinks hes somehow harrassing her daughter. plus, the idea is that the same thing might have happened to the fella some other times before since the guy has some balloons in his place. so the mother was wrong for assuming he was dangerous because hes black, even though hes a nice a guy and all. as most ppl wouldnt think a black toothpaste is not good or something. so "appearance can be deceiving" thats their point in the commercial. its like: "mother souldnt have judged black guy by his colour as you shouldnt decide not to buy the toothpaste because its black too." thats why ive posted before that the commercial is against racism afterall.

but how was his appearance deceiving then?
Because his SMILE did not blind you with a brilliant whiteness as it should........therefore it is a Toothpaste commercial that is Prejudice against dull, dirty TEETH! :D :D :D
Jack Klompus
July 2nd, 2006, 10:33 AM
but how was his appearance deceiving then?
because hes black and people are usually racist, as ppl wouldnt wanna buy a black toothpaste.... thats the commercial. its about prejudice. it shows the mother being racist, and then like: "look shes wrong, shes racist and hes a nice guy". and if you think the toothpaste is no good because its black then youre wrong too, because the black toothpaste rules. thats their point. remember there r not many black toothpastes out there, so ppl would normally think its no good.
again i think its against racism because it shows that racism leads to misjudge.

This is weird & interesting. At first, it has kind of a sad, anti-racist message, but then the man turns into black toothpaste. Weird, because they think they are trying to be nice, but really being racist.
We always discuss race issues between Black & White, but seldom between other races. Through martial arts, I got to know some Japanese people well, and unfortunately, the ONES I knew seemed to believe that everyone on earth was inferior to the Japanese, they seemed to think that all other races and nationalities were something less than fully human. It's subtle, but present. In Japanese porn, the practice of having sex with black men has a name (which I forgot), and is treated & looked upon as a FETISH.

AS usual, a very articulated and thought out post , "Nilez". Perhaps you may be able to explain why so many oriental women marry Black American Service men.....is it just to gain citizenship?
I surely would not want to be married to a fetish, a fetish is something that should be partaken off only on occasion. That makes it more exciting.

....as in a child? If you are inferring that the women deliberately get themselves pregnant to force the GI into marriage, I am sure this happens. But I am also sure that the servicemen may meet and fall in love with a local girl. Pregnant or not, the question still stands....Why marry a Fetish?

maybe cuz it something unique and well as an escape to what tbey have now, and the child thing may be the reason to make men stay, i know of stories of GI's who have left women pregnant and then later their past came to haunt them as their grown up kids came to look for their fathers....

I don't know. There must be some non-obvious practical reason. Like when white men go to the Phillipines, and come back with a wife. Every culture seems to be infatuated with whatever they (usually) arent. There are so few blacks in Japan, they must be a source of facination. They go nuts over blonds in the Philippines, because there are so few of them. We go nuts over skinny people in the U.S, because most Americans are overweight.

...true, I knew that. Just was not aware of the "fetish" viewpoint. When my X-wife was in Saudi Arabia, some Arab tried to buy her for thirty sheep, a camel and two hand made rugs! She was a beautiful Blond, her sister was a Gorgeous Brunette.....no one wanted the sister!

The commercial was only racist-ish until it got to the end and showed the guy lay down on a tooth brush. Then showed that the toothpaste was black as well, thats it. They didn't mean it in a racist way but it certainly wasn't such a good idea. Good idea, bad execution.

Zeus is one of my Dogs........My X-wife (mother of my Son) has nothing to do with, or ever met my dogs. She was visiting her Father and family in Kuwait where her father worked as an Engineer.

i was kidding... like: you said some Arab tried to buy her for "thirty sheep, a camel and two hand made rugs" right?... so i was joking about that, as if you had refused that offer but ended up accepting the deal when they offered Zeus for wife. Something Al Bundy would certanly do if it he was in your position... :) but hey forget it... it was a stupid joke anyway... :(

In a way it was kinda racist I mean, the guy who happens to be black goes out of his way just to get a balloon for the little oriental girl and the little girl and her mother show their grattitude by running from him like he was the bird flu. Also, the way the man was climbing the pole that was similar to the actions of a gorilla(even though he look like one) and it just happens that the toothpaste is the same color of the man(they could never compete against colgate). I called the girl oriental because I don't know her nationality and I don't want tobe racist lke her mother.

The oriental girl and her mother were Thai. It was a Thai product. I know this because I am Thai and living there. This commercial brought a lot of laughs because we thought African people were funny looking. In Thailand we are obsessed with white skin. I you don't believe me ask your local thai grocery people!

Considering one in three black males has been convicted of a felony, that guy isnt so much a victim of "racism", but his own race.
Nice message to send to mothers by the way, encourage your daughter to talk to strange random black men.
This commercial = Hurting fully grown black mans feelings not worth protecting your 4 year old daughter from violent rape/ abduction. Nice...

I noticed that this comercial is Chinese, and once I heard that the Chinese have a word for black people that means somthing like "monkey". I think If this is true then the commercial makes sense on several levels. I am a blak guy and I live in Vancouver BC Canada, there is a huge population of Chinese people here, the only time I expieience racism is when I walk down the street and a chinese person is coming towards me, quite often they will cross the street. It happened to me less than an hour ago. this is the reason I don't particularily like Chinese people.

How dare you talk about people of my race in such a way. Aren't almost all pedofiles white? And to suggest that 30% of black males are in prison without understanding the effect of systematic racism that is so prevelant in your country is ludicrous, it only proves your own ignorance.
