Without a gym, cant afford x amounts on that !

Im not fat nor am i 100% fit ( dont aim for that ie body builder!) but feel i need to lose a bit on the ol stomach area i dont eat loads just 3 meals a day say ( lot of those meals are sandwich's)- but i drink more beer than i use too- think this is my downfall - getting a slight beer belly at the age o 24 is not good.

So just wondering what the answer is- 500 sit ups per day i heard not all at once o course!

Also anyone know what my 24 yr old's weight should be. Im 5.11 in height.

Anyway i can lose a bit o weight by not giving up alcohol- im not some kind o alcoholic , just like a few beers of an evening.

I'm the same height as you and weigh almost 13 stone, im much younger tho, and quite stocky.

Making sure you have a balanced diet and going for a run in the morning etc would probably help.

Try running in the nights, and...instead of 3 meals, eat 6 small meals per day.

Avoid coffe in the mornings, and drink banana juice with milk...it will fill your stomach with 1 or 1 1/2 glass.

Never eat before sleep, wait, at least, 2 hours...then go sleep

Try doing a few weights on all areas on your body - just some cheap 4-8kg dumbbells from a sport shop are fantastic.

Obviously the upper body is easier to work with dumbbells. You can do various exercise even while posting on filecabi!

The advantage of weight resistance exercises over cardio (ie: running) is that you burn calories DURING and AFTER the exercise. If you carry it on over a few weeks/months, the muscle/tone you build will require calories just to survive - muscle is high-maintainence as far as calories are concerned.

Gyms arent that expensive as long as you know what you'e after. Go for smaller, cheaper gyms, which often have the same (if not as new) machines which give you the same exercise - once you get into it, and get some friends into it, you start to look forward to it and it becomes part of your routine.

I stopped going to my local gym when i moved to university - i desperately want to get back into it but now due to my hand injury, i cant work out for 12 weeks - and you wouldnt believe how much it depresses me. Im not a bodybuilder, but I like the results I've seen from my exercise, and I feel much better for it (more energy, both physically and mentally, a lot more confidence, and a great stress relief!!!)

Put it this way - I wouldn't have punched that wall had I worked myself that day...

Conclusion - the best way to lose weight is to make it an enjoyable experience.

As long as you eat healthily as a rule of thumb, you can get away with the beer and occainsional treats (take aways etc). Exercise is a much better way to go than calorie control diets, as you are more likely to see rewards for your effort when you are TRAINING rather than FIGHTING your body.

Put it this way, could you see yourself REGRETTING making the effort to train your body and mind in a years time? Or could you see yourself regretting NOT BOTHERING?

Sorry - fitness and health are subjects close to my heart ever since I was diagnosed with diabetes type 1...

Cardio is the most important thing out there. Run, Bike, Row, Swim whatever. You don't need a gym to do any of that, just don't be a lazy ass. And watch what you eat. 3500 Calories = 1 pound of fat

My Cardiologist wants me to go on a 1200 calorie/day diet.....which is absurd if you ask me. Almost impossible at this time, my body is not processing the calories correctly, so I am attempting to increase my physical activities. I have just started to count calories and fat grams again, not dieting, just to see what I do consume and where the calories are coming from.
I am about 6'3" and have not been below 300lbs in about 20 years. Even in High School I weighed 240-250 lbs my senior year. When I went to Ranger School I was running 7 miles/day and weighed my lightest at 220. All my brothers are at least 6' tall (the smallest weighs about 250lbs).
My mom was 6' tall.
My cardiologist consumes 6000-9000 calories a day....he runs 20 miles every day and competes in marathons (skinny little prick, he is)

i know from your previous posts you do a lot of walking so you get some exercise, you could cut out complex carbs like bread (too many sarnies), spuds, processed sugar etc and fill up on plenty of fruit or make filling smoothies with a variety of fruit, low fat yogurt and skimmed milk also cut out animal fats such as butter and lard, use polyunsaturated margarine and extra virgin olive oil instead. a bowl porridge for breakfast made with water (the scottish way) or skimmed milk is supposed to lower blood cholesterol and fills you up so you wont snack before lunch

ps cut out the deepfried mars bars, i know what you jocks are like

Drink 10 oz of water before a meal, after the meal, and before and after every snack you eat.

Do some little crunches or go for a walk everyday. Try not to eat TOO much junk or drink TOO much alcohol. I lost about 5 pounds this few days doing the water thing. Very good for me as well.

Big Ozzie

Watch the water! Too much is also bad for you if there are other problems. Water in....water out. Either in sweat or Urine. I was doing the water deal, heard it is supposed to work in quenching your appetite if you drink before and after like RK stated. Might work for some, but if you have underlying Kidney, Liver or Heart problems (mine is the latter) it can play Hell on your body. My body could not process the H2O that I took in fast enough and my Heart could not pump it. My feet and lower legs swelled up and I went into Congestive Heart Failure. This is why you should always consult your Doctor before dieting.
One of the things my Doc told me to do since I can't take in more than 1/2 gal/day (about 2 litres) is to take fiber pills or powder. This too will make you feel full so you do not eat a lot!
I do believe that you should stay away from the complex carbs....if it's white, it ain't right! White breads and rolls, potatoes, sugars, milk....watch the Fruits as well. Even those should be consumed in moderation.
Read the food labels....in the states the serving size isn't regulated or consistent! On some loaves of bread the serving size is two slices, on others it is one slice. Who ever made a sandwich out of one slice? Unless you are making a SNACK!
Cereals are not that good either....with the exception of whole grain like Oatmeal (whole oats) and there are a few others that are good.
No matter what you do, losing weight is a BITCH!
I read these posts in here with members calling video subjects and each other "Fat Fucks" and other degrading names about their weight and it makes my Blood Boil at times. I do not know of any Fat person that wants to be that way....granted, some are lazy and do not care. But those that are trying to loose weight are facing the hardest battle of their lives. I know...I'm in the middle of the fight right now!

Thanks Ozzie. I heard of people trying this and developing bladder problems from it being over worked or even have serious damage. But I'm young and healthy so I don't fear anything too awful bad might happen. Though somtimes it does keep me just a little too close to the bathroom.

I learned about "negative calorie foods" especially celarie. Now ALOT of anorexics love it. You burn more calories eating, preparing, and digesting it than consuming it. So I see alot of girls chowing down on celerie alot in my school. Sad. I can't fix my hair in the bathroom mirror by the lunch room because that is the official "bolemics bathroom" I once put up a sighn I made myself and hung it over the toliet ion the first stall saying "Think before you throw up" I dunno why I put it there. It was gone the next day.

Try with a sport and eating healthy, wich isn't necessary to eat less than normal

Soy milk maybe, dark sugar or splenda, water instead of sodas, eating only the important part of the meal, eating slow, branded bread and cookies :P hmm..

The best way, don't stop eating al the fastfood the first month. it makes your body store the fat extremely. eat less, fat. stop eating fat thing in about two months. Don't drink to much fruitjuice( there are a lot of calories in fruitjuice) no more then 3 glasses a day. don't eat cherry's they make you gain weight. a grilled home-made hamburger made of 100%beef and onions is low fat(no ketchup or mayonaise please)

Don't eat potatoes and bread at the same meal... Cheese and meat is a bad combination too. Cheese and cafeine is a worse combination.

Snuff.

Any weight unger 180 for me is fine and dandy as long as I'm healthy. Honestly a few months ago I weighed 199 and people told me I looked around 150... I suppose alot of my fat intake goes to muscle. Becuase the only thing that ever really looks like it needs work is my stomach. Which happens to be more flat and firm now thank goodness.

Any weight I ever really am nobody seems to treat me like "a bigger girl" because I'm pretty tall and with broad shoulders (which thankfully slant downwards so I don't looke like a linebacker) and it all really balances out so I never really look like "the fat chick" because only one part... *phew*

10 years ago I was to skinny, everyone walked into me in a busy street. now I'm a little above average. now everyone steps aside. oh and in my town everyone knows me now, and knows wat happens when they make me angry... everyone smiles.

Oh and the Mc Dnld here is the worst I've ever seen...

This was my order

3 QP
3 Frensh frites
3 milkshake banana large
4 cheeseburgers
1 hamburger plain.
5 sprite medium.

They gave me

2 QP
4 BM
3 milkshake large vanilla
5 hamburgers plain
5 fanta medium

I showed the manager the mess up. and gave me coupons...

Everithing was cold already, a one way street next to the Mcdrive. so I had to wait in traffic for about 20 minutes before I could turn around.

And all the manager did was giving me free coupons, not even a t-shirt.

The bitch at the intercom Did not understand me... Becouse there is a pole in the drive-lane wich only comes down after ordering.

"Someone made a mistake with my order"
-"Can I have your order please?"
"Someone made a mistake with my order can I drive to the first window"
-"Sorry I can't understand you, U have to order first"
"I have a Complaint"
-If you have a complaint, write the adress and telephone number down, and give it to me with your order"
"NO, I want to return a bag full of mistakes"
-"Sorry, You cannot return anything"

I stepped out of the car, and walked to the first window. Now she asked me to leave or she will call security

Now I showed her the bag, and the ticket. She walked away. and called the manager

manager: "Can I help you?"

[A lot of anger now, but tried to be kalm]

The same story, but the manager had more brains and said to me, oh I see we made a mistake.

He gave me a free "lunch" and a coupon so I can get one free hamburger extra

Never seen the girl again.

LOL! NICE!

I'm with a girl at the moment. She's amazing - really nice, so good to me, absolutely loves me and what I do to/for her - we've been together for about 2 weeks now, and she's suddenly decided she wants to lose weight. She's not overweight by any means, and I tell her all the time that she's amazing, but she wants to do it :?

I've said I don't want her to, but if she feels unattractive, then go for it.

You gotta support them, but you have to be honest. If you didn't find her attractive, and she was a cunt about it, then fair enough man.

Every girl ive been with up until now has been supa-skinny. I have to say, they are easier to throw around the bedroom, but they aren't as fun to ride ;)

You can take brisk walks for one thing, about 3 times a week, between 20 min to 45 min, not super aerobic, but it promotes lean muscle, as well as helps your posture, which helps put your muscles into proper alignment with your skeletal system. If you want to give me a Hotmail or Yahoo e-mail address, I have a bunch of Adobe pdf files for strength training and muscle toning without any weights, or minimal weights, most of it using your body mass.
One of the trainers has a point that he makes- there are many people out there that can bench press over 300 lbs. but most of them would struggle to do a single one arm chin up.
If you need/want equipment, you should be able to get a dumbell set with about 80 lbs of weight for strength training, a rowing machine for cardio, and those exercise balls all for less than 200 bucks.
Just an example, put your legs on the exercise ball, be in a push up position, and using your legs, do knee bends. Great core/torso muscle exercises, and a lot harder than you think!

You can also incorporate strength training into your everyday or daily activity-
watching tv and a commercial comes on-
do 50 leg raises, 50 push ups, 50 sit ups, 50 tricep raises, before the show comes back on. ( or however many you can do to start, more if you can) or just fire off as many of one exercise as possible during the commercial.
No matter what though, try to keep your exercise regime balanced! Nothing worse than seeing a person with a well built torso, arms, and then got them chicken legs goin.....

Forgot-
actually start eating organic foods if you can, try not to eat anything from a box or can that is processed ( read the labels ) just canning things is fine, but when they are too processed, a lot of the chemicals used remove the benefit from what you are eating, even the food stuff that is supposed to be good for you, some even promote your body to store fats.
Check your meats, chicken and eggs, you can get them free range, grain fed, and chemical free. Most local butchers as opposed to big name grocery stores have chemical free products.
I have no issues personally with the farmers using genetics, chemicals, steroids to get a better bigger product, but if you are trying to shed mass, you don't really want to eat items that were chemically induced to create mass, as those chemicals are still in the product, don't get destroyed by cooking, and induce the same effect in those of us eating the product.

I'm 6 feet, usually between 178-183, pending on when I weight myself, and if I've worked out.

Eating right will make sure that you won't gain any more weight, cardio will burn anything off that you don't want, weights will tone your body...

10 can't-miss tips to keep you motivated and dedicated to powering off the pounds.

The great ones have great strategies for success—Odysseus hiding in the Trojan horse, Ali using the rope-a-dope, Bugs Bunny dressing in drag.

Your weight-loss strategy should be similarly inspired. Willpower alone won't shrink your waist—you need facts and wisdom on your side if you're going to maintain the resolve you showed in January.

There are scientists who study weight loss so the rest of us can keep track of the important stuff, like spring training and Rotisserie drafts. These researchers regularly come up with good advice, the latest and greatest of which we've gathered for you. Pick a few tips, put them in your lineup, and get back in the weight-loss game.

1. Weigh Yourself Often

Time was, experts said to stay off the scale—it can be discouraging. But after studying 3,500 individuals from the National Weight Control Registry (NWCR) who've maintained 60 or more pounds of weight loss for at least a year, researchers found that 44 percent weighed themselves daily. Unhealthy obsession? No, says James Hill, Ph.D., NWCR cofounder and director of the center for human nutrition at the University of Colorado. "They use it as an early warning system for preventing weight regain," he explains. "If your goal is to keep your weight at a certain level, you have to have feedback to see whether you're successful."

2. Turn Off the TV

Scientists at Brookhaven National Laboratory in New York recently determined that simply seeing food can trigger a physiological "feed me" response. In the study, visual food cues caused brain activity to jump by 24 percent—mostly in the orbitofrontal cortex, the area of the brain related to drive and acquisition. So a constant barrage of pizza-delivery ads on TV could test your limits. And don't get us started on the Food Network.

3. Pray the Fat Away

Christian men who report feeling greater intimacy with God through prayer are more likely to be physically active than other men, according to research from Cornell University. "Studies have shown that those who have more social support move more, and being closer to God may give men that support," says lead researcher Karen Kim. Another possible reason: "General religion in the United States encompasses theological teachings about the body as a temple, which may also lead to the consumption of a healthier diet and increased physical activity," she adds. Amen to that.

4. Beware Tastebud Betrayal

"Hunger increases healthy men's taste sensitivity to sweet and salty substances," says researcher Yuriy Zverev, of the University of Malawi. This means vending-machine snacks (which come in two flavors: sweet or salty—coincidence?) will taste even better when you're hungry. You could trust that you'd savor the flavor by eating only a small amount. (Right.) Or you could sidestep this land mine altogether. "Eat offensively," says Katherine Tallmadge, M.A., R.D., a spokeswoman for the American Dietetic Association. "Eat regularly during the day to stave off cravings and the bingeing that can result."

5. Snack on Almonds

Seventy per day, to be exact. That's the number that people in a City of Hope National Medical Center experiment ate daily for six months, in conjunction with a reduced-calorie diet, to drop 18 percent of their body weight. Study author Michelle Wien partially credits the satiety factor. "Almonds are a nutrient-dense food that provides healthful monounsaturated fat, protein, and fiber, which together contribute to feeling full," she says. Go for whole almonds in their unsalted, raw, or dry-roasted state. Fifteen to 20 will do the trick for a quick snack. Try 50 as a meal replacement.

6. Grab the Day

Long summer days can help you lose weight. "The best time to start a diet is in May, because the days are very long, which makes your energy levels go up and your food cravings go down," says Judith Wurtman, Ph.D., a nutrition researcher at MIT. "You'll eat less and exercise more." So if you get home and it's still light, go for that run. Conversely, resolution-crazed January is the worst time to diet—the short days knock your serotonin levels out of whack, causing cravings. An Apollo Health goLite P1 lamp (apollolight.com/golite) can help your body adjust to the dark days of winter.

7. Pour a Bowl of Cereal for Lunch

A study from Purdue University shows that eating cereal in place of meals helps you lose weight. Participants consumed an average of 640 fewer total daily calories and lost roughly 4 pounds during the 2-week intervention. According to study author Richard Mattes, M.P.H., Ph.D., R.D., the approach teaches portion control with a convenient, easy-to-use food. Stick to filling, high-fiber cereals, like All-Bran or Fiber One, and eat them with low-fat milk.

8. Go Under the Needle

When Polish researchers examined acupuncture as a diet aid, they found that people who got needled lost 10 more pounds and ticked two additional points off their BMIs compared with those who merely cut calories. Marie Cargill, a licensed acupuncturist in the Boston area, explains that pressure points on the body—mostly on the ear—work as a switchboard to the brain, triggering electrical pulses that suppress appetite. "The ear system is very effective for addiction treatment," she says.

9. Eat a Cow's Worth

Of dairy, that is. Reports of the benefits just keep coming. Recently, a University of Tennessee study found that people who ate a daily 1,200 milligrams (mg) of calcium from dairy lost an average of 24 pounds, or 11 percent of their total body weight. "When you don't have enough calcium in your diet, you're more efficient at making fat and less efficient at breaking down fat, causing a bigger, fatter fat cell," says lead researcher Michael Zemel, Ph.D. Get the just-right amount by taking in two 8-ounce glasses of low-fat milk (699 mg), a cup of low-fat yogurt (338 mg), and an ounce and a half of cheese (287 mg).

10. Gamble on Yourself

Take a cue from the poker craze and wager against a buddy to see who can shed the most pounds. "Men do really well when they make weight loss a competitive game," says New York City nutritionist Joy Bauer, M.S., R.D., author of Cooking with Joy. "Have a six-month and a one-year check-in—none of that two-week garbage." Or try it in teams, as on NBC's The Biggest Loser, and you'll double the incentive—you'll want to win the bet and avoid letting down your team. "Healthy competition can bring out the absolute best in people," says the show's red-team trainer, Jillian Michaels, owner of SkySport and Spa in Beverly Hills. She recommends that the team take on a swimming relay or a 5-K run. "That way, it's not a scenario like 'Who can lift the most?'" she says. "Losing weight is ultimately about better health. For $100, somebody might do a pulldown that's way too heavy and end up tearing a rotator cuff." It'd be a shame if, after you'd lost all that weight, you still couldn't button your pants.

Hehe, I know the feeling.

I've been eating so much fast food (double quarter pounder meals) and drinking so much beer and bourbon and everything over the last.. month ..(that's how long my holidays have lasted so far.. and until I get another job)... plus I stopped working out too so I just know I'm going to start putting on pounds soon.

I say just jogging in the evenings or something... maybe belt up that punching back for an hour or so as well, moving around heaps.. and situps can't hurt.

Yeah....the first solution only works short term (unless it kills ya)

The water solution is helpful to some, but almost killed me. You still should not drink more than 2-3 quarts a day.
I was drinking before/with every meal. Whenever I got hungry, I would drink a 12 oz bottle. Kept a gallon in my truck...ended up with Congestive Heart Failure!
Turned out my heart could not deal with the extra fluids in my system and my legs and ankles swelled up like balloons!

Loosing weight requires simple math and a commitment.
You simply MUST burn more calories than you consume!
So cut down on portion size (use a smaller plate), ALWAYS save some for a Doggie Bag when eating out....
and most important, EXERCISE!
Even if it is just going for a walk after eating!

I've gotta disagree with you, man.

There's "forehead slapping stupidity", and there's "sue their ancestors into the next millennia" stupidity. This was a case of the latter.

How a corporate organisation could be so fucking stupid is beyond me. Callous? Perhaps - but this is purely a case of idiocy unmatched by anthing I've ever heard of.

Water intoxication occurs when your electrolyte levels are diluted. Electrolytes (essentially salts) are vital in maintaining a safe and regular osmotic process. This means that the salt in our fluids balances the pressure inside and outside our cells, and prevents them from swelling.

When they start swelling they cease to function as well. This results in a momentous symptomatic effect, with the end result being the swelling of the brain and consequent death of the victim. It is how the majority of ecstasy users have died, and is not something to be taken lightly. It must also be noted that it results from drinking an abnormally large ammount of water in a short space of time.

The fact that these people didn't have a doctor present and didn't use "sports drinks" is beyond comprehension. I hope they get strung up by their balls.

how many are going to drink themselves to death daily? Very few.

How many drink to uncomfortable levels?

And before you cite alcohol binging - most alcoholic beverages contain reasonable levels and combinations of electrolyte-replenishing nutrients.
