i think you're reading the books (if you are reading). we quit on vietnam, after we left because it was a "pointless war" the north killed no less then 10,000 in the first month. as for us getting rolled in that war. the teet offensive was the biggest blow to the norths army in the war. had we not choosen to quit, and started attacking not just reacting it would have been over.

We "lost" vietnam because of shoddy politics. The target acquisition process back then was atrocious. It took days to pick targets and the US government was so reluctant to take out infrastructure. Pilots were often asked to bomb targets repeatedly that had already been destroyed. Vietnam was similar to Iraq in that they were more of a ideological wars. We were trying to stim the spread of communism in vietnam and trying to establish a democracy in the Middle east to stim the extremist movement. Ultimately the US defeated communism. At least communist Russia. So was vietnam really a defeat?

You have such a naive view of American military history. Somalia was such a big deal because it was supposed to be a secret war. But when you get into a city wide battle you have to report about it. Why did we leave somalia? I don't know we probabaly should have done more. But to say our force of approximately 100 taking on several thousand Somalis and losing 15 men a military defeat is ludicrous. Somalia was a political disappointment not a military defeat.

You asked about our last victory? How about the first Iraq war? We did repulse the entire Iraqi army from Kuwait and then disseminated several divisions as they retreated. Some estimates of Iraqi soldier casulties from the gulf wart were up to 100,000.

Bosnia was another war worth fighting because of the genocide taking place.

The war of 1812 did involve the Americans attempting to gain Canadian territory, and general expansion into British North America.

Given that British forces were largely tied down in the battles with Napolean in Europe, it was left largely to the Canadians to defend themselves against much larger American forces. Generally the Canadians did see this as a war to defend themselves from American annexation, and it greatly fostered national unity and a move to embrace their part on the British Empire. (Which over a century later saw Canada being a vital part of the British Empires fight in two world wars).

When you talk about American products i have to say that i dont agree
with you. I dont know but i have never thought of American products
to be the same as quality products especially not the american cars
witch are seen as american junk here in europe, i cant actually think of that
many US products since most things we use are European or Asian.

When it comes to military u are the topdog, but still u dont have all of the
superior technology when it comes to equipment. Right as we speak
there might be a new swedish stealth sub lurking at the US coast.
The americans havent manage to find it after ONE YEAR, and this new
small Gotland class sub kicked British french and spanish ass earlier in
a drill in the Mediterranean. Thats what caught the american attention
and made them wanna try to find it, now the us wants to rent it for
1 more year, still they havent got a clue of where it is.
This new stealth system has been sold to Japan and Denmark, so well see
how long the US will wait before ordering.

Also the same swedish manufacturer makes a Corvette that is made
entirely of carbonfibre and impossible to find on radar.
There's alot of great fighter jets out there that can be a serious
threat to the US ones, the german leopard tank is far more advanced
than the american and would dominate in a fight.
There is a lot of hightech weaponsystems out on the market that could match
or beat american systems, lets just hope that no nation rich enough
decides to buy some and threaten America. So far the US have only
met some old soviet junk on the battlefield and lets hope it stays
that way. Because without good american economy i wont have a job
to support my family.

A Brit, Robert Watson-Watt, and a team of scientists refined the theory into practical use with Radio Direction Finding (RDF), the precursor to RADAR, before WWII. Britain used RDF to detect the German air forces coming and initiate and appropriate response, so those Spitfires would get in the air and precisely attack the German Air armadas with full fuel tanks and well rested pilots. I have every respect for Britain and other nations who have contributed greatly to advancements in technology and other devices whether they were at one time, or are now, enemies (or maybe just a little bit less than friends).

More on topic, the Iraq war is and was a legal war approved by the UN security council. Although there are some nations who have opposed it. THE GERMANS AND FRENCH ARE NOT THE U.N.! Just because there is some disapproval to a war does not make it illegal. I do admit that some mistakes have been made in the war but they have primarily been having our own troops abide by the rules of the Geneva Convention. It's hard to win, or even do well, in anything when the opposition doesn't play by the rules. The "insurgents" use many tactics that are specifically and explicitly prohibitted by the world (i.e. targetting civilians in attacks); but, as this video shows, when they do try to abide by the rules they get owned.

I know the Americans claim to have declared war on Britain. At the time, Canada was a British colony so war on Britain also meant war on Canada. Due to British forces largely being tied down in Europe fighting Napolean, this was largely a war of the US versus forces in Canada. (There were also a number of naval battles, which the British largely won to successfully disrupt the trade of the US and France).

My favorite dead horse to flog is that little talked about World War, the First. Always seems so hazy from our history books and the lame excuse about this Arch-Duke guy. So the conflict was going to happen one way or another. Funny thing is the French/Brits bit off more than they could chew taking on the Germans. Both sides were down to the wire man power and equipment wise. But consensus was the Germans would have had it, if some nation was not talked in to it. Rightly the folk in the US were seeing nothing to gain from sending our boys to that meat grinder they so lovingly crafted.

Have to claim ignorance at this point what was offered to the US to get them in to that bloody mess (US had to tack on Puerto Rico as a way to get extra man power). But in we went and ta-da! Also, the mission was meant to fail. There is no way in hell how you can overcome a fortified outpost on an elevated location IN THE DESSERT. It's not like you can just hide somewhere. I bet the guys had hella fun shooting them. The only thing they have to be worried about are grenades, RPG's, artillery or air support, or a .50Cal being dragged by the Truck.
That was a suicide mission. I bet one dude up there would have been enough to kill them all. Or they get 250 people and rush the place, seeing a gunfight turn into a bareknuckle fight would have been entertaining :D
