Talk about mis-information ,these people are confused about the whole state of what is going on. they praise death. that is not hard to see. they judge everyones actions excluding there own. these people are a sect unto them selfs, not very christian. they mix up to many issues and force them alltogether. what does god hating fags half to do with being happy that a person has died a from a I.E.D. there are lots of problems in this world but i dont think you should be promoting death as the answer.

To say these people are confused is being so polite ,i have seen and read some of the things these "christians"get up to and it makes me ashamed to be part of the same human race.Who goes to a funeral of a soldier killed following orders with placards and leaflets proclaimng this soldier will go to hell?sometimes freedom of speech should be modified

It would be my pleasure to run these motherfuckers down in my work van while they picket. I would do the time, just to be rid of this scum. I think there's a video somewhere here that had them picketing a funeral, and they were about to get mobbed. David Koresh part duce. Burn these assholes.

They tried to picket a funeral here in Arkansas. They cancelled it though. I was highly publicised. Every chapter of the Hells Angels in a 6 state area showed up to meet them, amoung others, and local law enforcement officers were all mysteriously stricken with an illness and could not show up for duties that day. I guess their faith that God would protect them was pretty thin considering they decided to cancel. We don't fuck around down here in the south.:smokin:

These people are seriously sick in the head if you ask me. And unless dealt with, heavily, a potential danger to US security. They pick selective passages from the bible that deserve to be in context and not to be read as 'literal' quotes on their own. Im not from the US but I believe this mob of miscreants should be hounded and put out of business. 'Freedom of Speech' is the upmost aspect of freedom that we practice and protect as much as possible but there has to be a line drawn somewhere. Im sure the vast najority of decent minded people would like to see them censored. and put off-screen (Except for now and again to show people how fekin nutty they are.)
This kinda shite could be prosecuted under curren UK laws but I would be more than happy to see them getting the shit kicked out of them for a bit. Hmmmmm thats An idea. Invite them to the Burial of a dead serviceman from Glasgow and see how long they last.
But seriously, they are buch of misfits and semi religeous nuts who are there to be mocked and pitied I suppose. interesting from a sociology pov.

Wow, you're as confused as the guy in the video. God called homosexuality an "abomination", which makes it more than a little worse than your run of the mill sin (gluttony, covetness, etc.) But, it doesn't mean that homosexuals cannot still repent and be saved. However, they cannot continue to be a homosexual or they haven't really repented and are doomed to an eternity in hell. Trust me, I'm following Jesus' words and love when I repeat what He has said and you won't get into paradise if you continue a homosexual lifestyle. It's all in red, baby!

Looking at Kansas' history of serial killers like the BTK killer, the "bloody Benders",Don Nemechek,Richard Grissom Jr.,John E. Robinson Sr. etc. It would seem there would be at least ONE nutcase left in Kansas to take this church out.
Certainly there are er....patriots in Kansas? Ex or returning soldiers anywhere there?? Any self respecting congressman from Kansas? Nobody??

These are the words of Fred Phelp's son:
"What is he like? Well, it's been 19 years since I left home, but his behavior still appears to be the same. He considers his environment to be against him without admitting, acknowledging or taking responsibility for how he contributes to that. He likes to show himself as being moral, pro-family, pro-Bible, but his actions just don't add up to that."
"I also realize that my father is a very unstable person who is determined to hurt people".
The whole letter is here (scroll down)
http://www.plattsburghforpeace.com/fredphelps.htm
If you read it all you will see how these people were raised by this "Godly" man. From chapter 2:
"Mark Phelps feels nauseated whenever he remembers that night. He was hit over 60 times and his brother, Nate, over 200 with a mattock handle".

It doesn't surprise me one bit that even these "Christians" can't even get along or agree on anything.
Just because you've read some bullshit "history" books does not anyone the authority to pass judgment on other people.
Let me ask you this, what if you were gay? What if someone close to you were gay? Father, mother, sister, brother, hell even yourselves! How would you treat them? How would you treat yourself!?
People really need to stop being so god damn ignorant and just realize that not eveyone out there is the same as yourselves. If you had any real respect for anything or anyone you'd realize this.

Newbie here too, folks. And a PGR member as well. And Peckerheadmc is correct: the lion's share of the bikers there were PGR with a sprinkling of Banditos and Pistoleros thrown in. Many will be amazed to know that even a number of CMA (Christian Motorcycle Association) members rode in the Arkansas biggie to boot.
My question to everyone here is this: Do you REALLY want to do something to what we call the UGs? That stands for Uninvited Guests. And I mean REALLY want to cause them grief??
I'll be sitting back for a bit waiting for some posts. I know at least a few of you have to be curious!

God called it an abomination?
Really?
I thought it was just something in that man-made work of fiction that is the Bible.
Or if you believe everything it says, then you must believe that Joseph, the step-dad of Jesus was gay. After all, his wife Mary had a son and was a virgin. It was just a sham marriage to protect himself from people like you.
Their marriage wasn't even consummated, so even the mother of Jesus didn't uphold good christian traditions & values.
Lets face it, if you believe the bible then you believe that Joseph was gay, and Mary was an un-christian whore who shagged deities and had a sham marriage.

FOR THE SAKE OF ARGUEMENT, let's say they are right in that all things that happen is God's destiny therefore all those who die were destined to die. Now, For every one American killed in Iraq there are about 2000 Shiites killed. So then why are not these people thanking god for killing all those Shiites, after all, way more of them are killed? Answer, because they believe that America is the wrong one as if America started a war where peace existed. Therefore, all THEY have to do is pay attention and they will see that peace did not exist in Iraq as they were in fact at secret-war being caught with hundreds of suicide bomb-vests in a factory behind Saddam's house, thus your a fool going to Westboro Church. The world has been looking, since 1980, for who is doing all this recklessness. Reckless things that have happened are passenger airplanes being shot down randomly and suicide attacks across the world. It's ALL recklessness thus if you do any one of them you probably do them all. Right now Iran is accused of the same thing and they admit suicide attack as a method of war but of course as if they are the "victim". At least, Westboro fanatics are not violent.

Saddam had a suicide bomb vest factory behind his house?
Surely with his dictatorial powers, he could have got them to build it somewhere where it wouldn't ruin the view from his bedroom window?

A lot of people are talking about "removing" Phelps and his followers from the country, or about adjusting freedom of speech laws, and I have to tell you right now, those are all terrible ideas. Not that they don't deserve it; they're all terrible people, their views are ignorant and hateful, and they express them in overtly offensive and painful ways. But you don't chip away at freedom of speech to shut up a few idiots. You start chipping and it won't stop cracking. Its one of the most important freedoms we have in the US, and it makes us the country that we are.
So let Fred Phelps and the rest of the Westboro Baptists make asses of themselves. Thats their choice, that's their freedom. The price they pay is being the most hated collection of inborn sacks of vomit on the planet.
That, and an eternity in Hell (if you're into that).

But as much as I hate what america has done in Iraq and I truly hope little ol george and company are eventually brought b4 the world court which many billions of ppl think is only a matter of time, We would think that most ppl would disagree with these lunatics, Yes there are gung ho wankers in every military, especially so the americans but most of these young guys are scared shitless in the battlefield of Iraq and they should never have been there in the first place, but for these so called religious nuts to go to a funeral and protest, well I think any normal citizen would be outraged by this and if it ever happened to my son or daughter god would need to be on their side to stop me from doing time for them.

Wow... a lot of anger, and a lot of different beliefs.
First off, I am a soldier serving with the 101st Airborne Division, and returned from a deployment in Iraq back in September. It was a very long year, and certianly opened my eyes to a lot of things that go on.
In regards to this whole WBC ordeal, I have been keeping a very vigilant eye upon those who claim to be "God's Elect". This cult believes that there is room for a certian number of souls in heaven (around 250,00 or so) and it is predetermined before the birth of the person. They believe that no matter what you do, if you are not one of the "elect" you will automatically go to hell. I find it ironic that they are calling themselves "Baptists" which believe that salvation is not through works (good deeds) but by faith alone, and asking forgiveness from Jesus Christ.
Now the problem with this whole Calvanistic theory is that they (Westboro Baptist) look at signs of what they do, and think they are fulfilling "prophecy". The biggest one they follow is that according to scripture, "the unsaved will loathe, detest, and even take violent action against God's elect". These zealots feel by what the views of their beliefs and demonstrations are, that the world hates them, for being the chosen ones to go to heaven. This is simply not true, as violations of common decency cause any person, from any walk of life to be hated.
In a delusional twist of events, the cult believes that to mourn the dead is to lay with the dead, and take and twist words from the bible to their own beliefs. It does mention in the Bible that "the dead should burry the dead", but there is a certian amount of respect which need be done for the fallen. By picketing these funerals, they feel that they are trying to "save" us...which makes no sense in the fact that if you follow what they are saying, we're all damned to hell if whe are not of the "Elect" at any rate.
The reason that they are so "overjoyed" by the I.E.D.s is that back in the early 90's, someone tried to blow up their church, using of all things, an I.E.D. Go figure.... So now.. they feel that because America has turned it's back on God, he is striking back by using I.E.D.s as his chosen weapon. The target is soldiers, because according to the cult's belief, they are helping to support the homosexual nation, so it is guilt by association, and blame the soldiers.
I could go on for hours with this little rant, but I would easily get sidetracked. I just wanted to point out a few other tidbits for thought. 1) Pastor Fred Phelps was once accepted to Westpoint military academy, but turned it down to go to Bob Jones University in Greenville South Carolina. 2) The church is made up of about 80 or so people, the majority are either Roperts or Phelps, most of which are lawyers... probably to avoid all the lawsuits for their disturbances. 3) Fred Phelps has been compared to David Caresh in forming a convincing hate based cult.... and the biggest one... 4) Has anyone but me noticed that the zipcode for the Westboro Baptist church is conviently 66604? Go figure...

It's all in red, baby!
you're the most confused. Let other's live how they please as long as it doesn't hurt anyone. who are you to decide who a man should love. I'm not gay, but i believe it's no one's business but those involved in the relationship.

Pretty much you are completely wrong here.
God called it an abomination?
Really?
I thought it was just something in that man-made work of fiction that is the Bible.
The part about being man made is correct. A very common misconception about the Bible is that it was written by God. It wasn't. It was written by a large number of scribes, disciples and prophets.
However, I challenge you to prove that it is fiction.
Or if you believe everything it says, then you must believe that Joseph, the step-dad of Jesus was gay. After all, his wife Mary had a son and was a virgin. It was just a sham marriage to protect himself from people like you.
Actually, no. He feared for Mary's life.
Joseph found out that Mary was pregnant and was about to leave her, but he was told by an angel that the child was divine. He knew none would believe this, so he quickly married her to protect her from a death by stoning (the approved form of punishment for adultery at the time). From there, he took her to Bethleham.
Their marriage wasn't even consummated, so even the mother of Jesus didn't uphold good christian traditions & values.
Wrong. It is specifically stated that Joseph did not 'know' Mary until after Jesus' birth. 'Knowing' someone (in case you do not know) is a polite way of saying you had sex with them.
They consumated, and had other kids. They just didn't do it until after Jesus' birth.
Lets face it, if you believe the bible then you believe that Joseph was gay,
As I said before, he was not.
and Mary was an un-christian whore who shagged deities and had a sham marriage.
Um, there was no deity-shagging involved. God has the power to just say 'you're pregnant' and you will be pregnant. No sex needed.
Oh, and Mary was jewish, so calling her un-Christian is a red herring and smacks of being ill-informed...like the rest of your post.

Thanks for the link, I did indeed take time to read the son's letter. Sounds like he knows dear ol' dad pretty well, as does one of his other brothers. Tragic shit those two went through. What is wrong with the other siblings? The rest of them all no "brainers"?

However, I challenge you to prove that it is fiction.
Unfortunately if you have 'faith', this means you will never accept any evidence.
One could point to a few things, such as evolution vs creation as documented in the bible.
Or you could wonder how any of the scribes / disciples / prophets knew how long the Earth took to create, or what order god did things in as documented in Genesis?
However, here is one fact from around the birth of Jesus.
Mary & Jospeh went to Bethlehem for the census. The census was used by Romans to help them determine tax levels. Judea was not under direct Roman rule until 6AD. (Up to that point, King Herod was their client king exercising indirect rule).
So why in 0AD were Mary & Joseph travelling to Bethlehem for a census that would not have begun until 6AD at the earliest?
There are lots of other factual errors and inconsistencies.
e.g. in Leviticus Chapter 11 the follow statements are made (exact wording varies depending which version of the bible you read).
20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
22 Even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind.
23 But all other flying creeping things, which have four feet, shall be an abomination unto you.
So other than locusts, beetles and grasshoppers you should not eat insects. Apart from the oh-so-common four legged variety.

Also worth pointing out that the bible contains some demonstrably false prophecies which also show it to be a work of fiction rather than fact.
e.g.
Isaiah 17:1-2
An oracle concerning Damascus. See, Damascus will cease to be a city, and will become a heap of ruins. Her towns will be deserted forever...
Three thousand years later, Damascus is still very much here.
Isaiah also spoke of a prophecy God made to Ahaz, the King of Judah that he would not be harmed by his enemies:
Isaiah 7:1-7
In the days of Ahaz,...king of Judah, Rezin the king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah the king of Israel came up to Jerusalem to wage war against it, but they could not conquer it...And the Lord said to Isaiah “Go forth to meet Ahaz...and say to him, ‘Take heed, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint...at the fierce anger of Rezin...and the son of Remaliah. Because Syria...and the son of Remaliah has devised evil against you saying “Let us go up against Judah and terrify it and let us conquer it for ourselves...” thus says the Lord God: “It shall not stand and it shall not come to pass...”
Yet according to II Chronicles, Syria and Pekah did conquer Judah!
II Chronicles 28:1, 5-6
Ahaz was 20 years old when he began his reign...[T]he Lord God gave him into the hand of the king of Syria, who defeated him and took captive a great number of his people...He was also given into the hand of the king of Israel who defeated him with great slaughter. For Pekah the son of Remaliah slew a hundred and twenty thousand in Judah in one day.
Many more examples given at http://www.geocities.com/paulntobin/prophecies.html

Unfortunately if you have 'faith', this means you will never accept any evidence.
So you are saying that because I see something more in this world than science can explain means I don't look at evidence? You don't know me personally so how would you know?
Making broad generalizations about someone and assuming them to be fact is a form of faith.
One could point to a few things, such as evolution vs creation as documented in the bible.
Or you could wonder how any of the scribes / disciples / prophets knew how long the Earth took to create, or what order god did things in as documented in Genesis?
The thing is, the scribes did not know how long it took to create the earth. Also, modern science doesn't know for sure either. Both are theories and either one could be correct or both could be way off.
However, somehow information was passed from the divine to mortals. It wouldn't be the only example of such. It is my belief that whoever wrote and/or edited the Bible felt that the manner of the passage of information was unimportant, only that the information itself was.
Actually, the motive for going to Bethleham is under debate. There is a theory that states that Mary was the one who chose Bethleham because it was prophesized that the Messiah would be born there. The reason, nor the location matter. I was simply countering your ignorant point of Joseph being gay.
Also, the date of Jesus' birth is up for debate but I would say the important this is not when he was born, but the fact that he was born at all.
But the rest of what you said is essentially correct.
There are lots of other factual errors and inconsistencies.
e.g. in Leviticus Chapter 11 the follow statements are made (exact wording varies depending which version of the bible you read).
20 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you.
21 Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth;
How is this a factual error? I don't get what you are trying to say. Please explain.
So does it say in the bible that God just said "you are pregnant", or are you just making an assumption?
I said he had the power to do so, as demonstrated from earlier passages in the Bible. being able to speak a phrase and give the world light is one hell of a lot more impressive than making a single woman pregnant. He did the former in the Bible so why couldn't he do the latter.
And you were making assumptions when you said Mary shagged a deity.
Ill-informed? Coming from someone who seems to have chosen faith over evidence, that is pretty amusing.
What's amusing is that you seem to like to throw around insults at someone based on personal prejudices, biases and stereotypes.
As for the first prophecy you quote, it was not divine. It was made by a mortal and recorded. How this makes the Bible a work of fiction I don't know.
As for you other prophecy, that one smacks of being taken out of context. I have some reading to do and get back to you on that.

Surely whoever was the author of the book of Genesis would have left some account of their divine experience?

Fact - you are a pompous ass. I'd venture to say there is a mirror attached to your computer monitor not there so much to see those approaching your paranoid ass from behind as it is to glance at your wonderful self as you attack those in disagreement with your opinion.
Fact - you are welcome to your opinion. Here in America, just as we allow freedom of speech PROTECTED BY OUR CONSTITUTION AND DEFENDED BY OUR MILITARY, we allow pompous asses (see WBC) to prove to the rest of us how big a pompous ass they are (see you). It's what we do. It's called Liberty. Heard of it??
Fact - we (the non-pompous asses) who are not out on the lines of battle defending our Constitution and our Liberty are at home defending the families of those fallen warriors (also know to many of us as Heroes!) and welcoming home those (also Heroes!) who have survived the battles against terrorists who crash into buildings here at home and blow up subways in foreign lands (sound familiar at all??) and protecting even pompous asses (see you AND WBC) who chose to display their asses in an effort to place themselves on a self-constructed pedestal above all others.
Fact - The WBC choose to show up at our soldiers' funerals to wave their signs, trample our flag and spew their filth towards the loved ones who are burying their sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate price in the defense of our liberty, our freedom and OUR CONSTITUTION so that the pompous asses have the right to do what they do.
Fact - The Patriot Guard Riders along with supporters from dozens of other organizations and thousands of ordinary, grateful citizens across this country place themselves as a HUMAN SHIELD displaying a wall of AMERICAN FLAGS between the families of the fallen and the pompous asses. The families see and hear nothing but RESPECT, HONOR, TRIBUTE AND APPRECIATION for their sacrifice.
Fact - As we turn our backs to the pompous asses, they get to see what every enemy of Liberty throughout history has been humiliated and struck dumb to see. Something that shows them they are unworthy of our attention, unworthy of our respect, unworthy of our concern:
OUR ASSES!

I read a story while growing up. It was about a baby that was born to a virgin mother. This baby was supposedly the child of a diety. This child grew to be a great man who led many people in their search for salvation. But then, one day, one of his closest followers betrayed him and turned him over to an army that wanted him dead. This army murdered the now young man in a horrific way. Three days later he was ressurected as a god to serve alongside his father. Would you care to venture a guess as to the name of this person? I'll check back later to see.

No, you are putting words into my mouth. I said I see more than science explains, at least the science that we are told about. How exactly does this say that I will automatically discount any evidence presented to me?
So surely you agree that the account in the Bible is fictional if even you think it is only a theory?
No, I do not agree that is it fictional. Actually, I think it correlates with what science tells us, but that's another subject.
If they got the information from a divine source, how can it be wrong?
Mistranslations come to mind. The original source wasn't wrong, but the interpretation.
Surely whoever was the author of the book of Genesis would have left some account of their divine experience?
Maybe, maybe not. Even if they left it in, there are key places in history where it may have been edited out. I consider it an unimportant point given the message of the book.
They were supposedly travelling there for a census. I didn't believe that was under debate.
That is the prevailing theory, but there may have been other reasons for their choice of destination.
Wasn't he born a Jew?
Doesn't that in itself invalidate Christianity, and show it to be a man-made invention?
Yes he was born a Jew and no it does not invalidate Christianity. All religion is man-made. All religion. The rituals, methods of worship and whatnot are all man-made. The underlying principles of a belief (there is a difference between religion and belief) are divinely inspired and may form the basis of a religion, but are not man made.
Four legged insects?
Ok, I see what you are saying now. Anyway, there are a lot of insects that appear to only have four legs (praying mantis comes to mind, as do certain stick bugs). There are also a number of insect-like creatures that are not true insects that have four legs.
Given the lack of mastery over entemology that ancient people had (as well as no real classification system as we know it) they didn't make much distinction between things like an insect and arachnid.
Actually it was a poor attempt at humour, but I have just as much evidence that this is what actually happened than you do for claiming God just made-it-so.
Of course you'd never accuse someone else of being ill-informed based on your own personal prejudices.
I was? I wasn't aware of that. I thought I was seeking to inform someone who gotten some things wrong.
Seriously? It is expounding views and prophecies which are not based in fact, ergo it is fiction.
No. Wrong. Just because a prophecy was made (a non-divine prophecy) and was recorded, does not make the whole book false.
Look at it this way. If a book was written about J.R.R. Tolkien's life, by your logic, it could not contain one mention of any of the books he wrote, or the whole biography would be false. In fact, it could not contain one single mention of fiction, or have one untruth in it or it would be wholly invalidated.
I look forward to it.
And actually I am not even going to bother. See below.
I'll be spending my time consulting with my invisible parrot. My own personal imaginary friend is much cooler than yours.
I'd also like you to prove that my invisible parrot friend does not exist. There is just as much evidence for his existence as there is for God.

Also, why are you picking on Christianity? Most of your arguments are coming from the Old Testement, which is essentially the same as the Jewish holy book. yet, you do not turn your efforts toward discrediting Judaism. Also, other holy texts contain similar contradictions but guess what...you don't mention them.
You have proven not only do you have a close-minded world view, but you also have some sort of gripe or bias against Christianity. That alone discredits your arguments (due to your logic of faith and evidence). I am not even going to try with you anymore. I have better things to waste my time on.

Sorry to continue to put words into your mouth, but yet again you are indicating that you "see more than science explains".
Can you outline how that is different to discounting evidence in favour of your faith?
Yes he was born a Jew and no it does not invalidate Christianity. All religion is man-made. All religion. The rituals, methods of worship and whatnot are all man-made. The underlying principles of a belief (there is a difference between religion and belief) are divinely inspired and may form the basis of a religion, but are not man made.
That is progress of a sort.
So the rituals and methods of worship of a given religion are man-made.
But the book is not?
Ok, making fun of me and my beliefs just because you do not agree with them? And you say that I am close-minded. A certain saying about a pot and kettle come to mind.
It wasn't an attempt to make fun of you, it was a serious point. You asked me to PROVE that the bible was a work of fiction. You are certain it is true, because you have faith in your god.
I was merely outlining that I could pick out something ridiculous, such as an invisible parrot, to back up my assertions just as strongly as yours.
Why is faith in an invisible parrot any less ridiculous than faith in God?
Also, why are you picking on Christianity? Most of your arguments are coming from the Old Testement, which is essentially the same as the Jewish holy book. yet, you do not turn your efforts toward discrediting Judaism. Also, other holy texts contain similar contradictions but guess what...you don't mention them.
You asked me to prove the bible was wrong, and as far as I'm aware only Christianity treats the bible as the main source of holy texts?
I'm happy to state that I equally believe the Koran and all other holy texts which state the existence of a divine being are wrong.
I haven't got anything against Christianity specifically, as I'm against all religions generally.

I have to say its a breath of fresh air that people like Squiffy post here as well.
Oh if only there was some sort of anti-bullshit law in order to stop regular internet arguments that go...
"YOU CANT PROVE THAT A NON PHYSICAL OMNI-PRESENT BEING BEING DOES NOT EXIST. YOU CANT DISPROVE THAT MY GOD, THATS 1 OUT OF THOUSANDS OF OTHERS THROUGHOUT HUMAN HISTORY HASN'T JUST BEEN THOUGHT UP BECAUSE I HAVE BELIEF WITHOUT EVIDENCE SO THERE HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!! GO BACK TO NEWGROUNDS.COM FAGGOT!"
And so forth.

And so forth.

If you are claiming that I am posting under multiple IDs, you are dead wrong.
I'm sure the mods can verify my IP address is not the same as anyone else who has posted in this thread.

That is not what I am claiming...In fact, you seem to have too much pride to do something like that.
I was referring to how this thread was dead, and somebody posted on it praising you, and you responded in a friendly manner, reassuring yourself that you were right even after the argument was long over.

Oh no. How dare I respond in a friendly manner.
Boy do I feel stupid now.

I'll tell you what! If these people are protesting for America's "tolerance" towards homosexuals and God destroys these nations for doing so, then I guess much of Europe and Canada are toast!

Religion is a mental illness, as highlighted by this rather extreme case.

Yeah, right.:eek7: Thanks for putting that straight for us all Texascop!
