He had to, the brunt of the force was going right into his cruiser, he saved his life by doing that.

But, was that driver drunk or an extreme cop hater? It looked like it had been raining for a while in that clip, so it can't have been because of overly slippery roads.

first he saved his own life by jumping away from the cop car, then his head narrowly misses being run over by 3 cars, then (assuming) with alot of broken bones, the adreneline gives him strength to run off the road
