A man has been arrested after an elderly woman was sexually assaulted in her hospital bed earlier this week.
The 46-year-old man was brought into 54 Division headquarters by his family at around 3 p.m. yesterday.
Police were called Wednesday night after a 91-year-old patient at Toronto East General Hospital complained that a man posing as a doctor had tried to kiss her and sexually assault her.
After she fended him off, the man fled from the hospital.
After investigators circulated an image of the wanted man obtained from the hospital's security cameras Thursday, they received calls on other possible sightings.
One woman who saw the photo on the television news told police she had seen the man that same day wandering the halls of an elementary school near the hospital.
As a precaution, other nearby schools were warned about the intruder, but police said at the time they were not convinced the man posed a real threat to children, Laing said.
"There were no incidents at the school," police Det. Darren Laing said yesterday. "No one was accosted. He was there about five o'clock, so this would have been after the kids were let out."
After the man was taken into custody yesterday, police said they could not confirm any link between the suspect and the school sighting.
The arrested man, whose name has not been released, was to appear at Old City Hall court this morning.
