Warcraft media: $50
Subscription: $19 / month
Paying someone to get game money and play for you: Idiot

I admit, I play. And it is an amazing game. Fun as hell.
But buying money is just fucking lame. Be a man and make your own fucking fictional gold.

I play it too and think that buying gold is ridiculous. You already have to buy the game and pay for a monthly subscription, why waste any more money on it? I think these people take the game way too seriously. They take it personal if people think they are poor or have crappy gear... who gives a shit? Yeah sweet gear man, that's probably why you have the social abilities of a 6 year old. The thing that makes it even more ridiculous is that some people will charge for "powerleveling" which is basically where you pay someone else to play the game for you. That makes a lot of sense. How about we pay $50 for a video game, $40 for its expansion, $15 a month, and on top of that how about I pay someone $200 to play the game for me. Great idea... what a complete waste of money.

I played the game and got sick of it. I don't see all the hype with it. I guess I'm just not big into these MMORPGs. Though I did spend a good deal of time on it, probably a total of about a week's worth of playtime combined.
I have to admit, I would probably pay 10-20 dollars for a sackload of gold. I mean, that's a rather cheap price I'd say. But I would never EVER pay to buy a character. What's the point of playing the game after that?

As an avid warcraft player, I can tell you that these guys are annoying. They go out, buy their way into the top rung of the game, and bypass 90% of the gameplay.
These are usually the guys that brag about their characters to no end as well. Very easy to spot, and highly annoying.
My big pet peeve is another type of player, and one thats even MORE annoying. Beggars. They are everywhere! every major city has at least one idiot sitting there, posting over and over again "Can someone give me some gold please?"
wait.
Its never that well written. Its usually some bullshit like "Can Sum1 PLZ giv Me sum Gld PLZ? kthx". Over and over and over and over again.
Fuck. If thats all your going to do with your game time is just sit around and beg for it, then hell, be my guest, go out and buy it. Please!

I played WOW hardcore for nearly 2 years, all my gear was the best of the best, and not a single item I had was even possible to purchase... all my gear was drops from bosses in high level instances. At the time the only thing I could think of why anyone would buy gold is to be able to afford some extremely expensive crafted item, or an epic mount.
I still play WOW... but now that I'm a very casually player (a few hours a week.. maybe) and I have a different view of the game. I can now rationalize why people would buy gold, for a person who doesn't have the time to play hardcore like I used to, you need alot of gold to purchase items to make you effective in PVP and pick-up instance groups, and thus enjoy the game. World of Warcraft is NOT geared towards the casual player especially if you ever want to see any of the endgame content. If you have only a couple of hours a week to play, and you have to spend that time gathering gold, you will get bored of the game really quick and likely quit. For SOME people who really like the game, spending $50.00 on some ingame currency to buy some of the better BOE and crafted items, is much better than quitting.
This applies to nearly ALL MMORPG's out there, not just World of Warcraft.
I don't condone buying imaginary gold (although I have done it a couple of times) but I can understand why it's done and how people are able to exploit this money making opportunity.

Good to see someone that doesn't just spout opinionated BS, and gives a good perspective on WHY someone would spend money on a game like that.
Has ANYONE ever heard the expression "Time is money"? For working class people, this is very true... so to pay 2 hours in wages for about 50 hours worth of progress makes perfect sense to me. I view it more as buying your time back than anything else.
*waits for the first idiot to say 'you could just stop playing and have all your time back' (I love irrelevant arguments)*

i played wow for a very long time now. 2 years i think, awesome game, but gold buyers are idiots, and whats more annoying is these farmers.
they go around, killing all the monsters so YOU cant farm them, and then have the audacity to go: "ni hao?"
i hate em! they wont even help you when you are in trouble like decent people!

This might actually be the end of the world!... of warcraft. But seriously, I never got into this game, I have cousins that are addicts though. One tried to buy gold, had some person in China do it, and ended up getting all his stuff stolen. :1orglaugh:

I recently stopped playing this game becuase i got bored with it and many damn chinese farmers that spammed me with in-game mail about their websites.
Now to the topic:
Buying gold online is NOT cheating, some say that it ruins the game, i couldn't disagree more.

My wife and I and are avid gamers so of course we tried WOW but didn't care for it. We do play tons of other MMO's though and this "farming" goes on in pretty much every MMO out there. In the main game we play everyone constantly bitches about it non-stop yet the people running the game never really do anything about it. As long as everyone pays their monthly fees it's all good to them yet technically it's not allowed. Everyone gets pissed off at these guys though because they spam you with in-game tells while you're trying to play the game your paying money for.
One good point about these "farmers" is that they indirectly help me make great amounts of in-game money. They harvest rares and sell them cheaper than everyone, which in turn I buy and then make into rare gear to sell for profit. So as much as they might annoy me they are actually a valuable asset to many in the game.
Another thing to think about is that these people actually enjoy what they are doing. Hell if I could get paid to play my favorite games all day and make enough to pay the bills I probably would too, so it's hard to blame them.
Lord of the Rings Online is just coming out you can bet the "farmers" have probably already dug theirs claws into the LOTRO economy lol.

Completely defeats the purpose of playing the game in the first place. I'm amazed people try to justify this. Funny, they don't have time to play the game and earn it legit, but they work the hours at their jobs to pay for it. So in reality they're taking the time...out of their paychecks. I used to play Final Fantasy XI and heard of this being done, but never seen it first hand. It was just as looked down upon there too.

The only thing that really defeats the purpose is having an already leveled character. Getting gold is just tedious and a waste of time if you aren't avidly into these MMORPG's.
