Jesus friggin Christ, it's a bloody Cape buffalo not a wildebeest, you idiots (File Cabinet), lol!!!

That lioness is lucky to be alive, one lone lioness ain't gonna do shit to an adult buffalo, she must've been really hungry going after that calf all by herself.

water buffalo = toughest animal on this planet

they protect their young, and lions would have to be real friggin hungry to even attempt that alone; that is sure death if they hang around too long.

Wrong, even a male lion can't take down an adult buffalo by himself, of all the years I've been reading on wildlife and watching animals shows, I've never seen that happen.

The truth of the matter is even as a pride, lions are only successful killing a buffalo once outta ten tries or so, Cape buffaloes are no joke, especially a male bull in his prime, that's why lions mostly go for females, calfs, old, sickly, or injured buffaloes.

And that calf is ok, those animals are very resilient, thousands of years of evolution in a very harsh environment, these are not delicate animals, not even calves.

Wikipedia on Cape Buffaloes:

"The Cape Buffalo is not closely related to the slightly larger Asian Water Buffalo, but its ancestry remains unclear. It is a very powerful creature, demanding respect from even a pride of lions when paths cross. Other than humans, they have few natural predators and are capable of defending themselves against (and sometimes killing) lions. Lions do kill and eat buffalo occasionally, but it typically takes multiple lions to bring down a single adult buffalo; fewer when it is injured or very old. The leopard and spotted hyena are a threat only to newborn calves. The African Buffalo has never been domesticated. Known as one of the "big five" in Africa, the African Buffalo is widely regarded as a very dangerous animal, as it mauls and kills several people every year. Buffalo are sometimes reported to kill more people in Africa than any other animal, although the same claim is sometimes made of Hippopotami or Crocodiles. Buffalo are notorious among big game hunters as very dangerous animals, with wounded animals reported to ambush and attack pursuers."
