it looked like the store owner was using a katana.

Let's count the times he got hit, don't think he's able to put pressure on all his wounds, besides I think he indeed was in shock and I don't think you know what you're doing if that happens.

If you sort of slide the video cursor over from when he falls till the end you can see him sort of rolling a bit, looks like he just couldn't bear what happened and went into a state of shock.

By the looks of how he was standing around and fiddling with stuff on the counter could of been a dose of Adrenaline or he was good enough to hold himself up until everything set into his mind.

I'm going to say he lived, but I could be wrong.

China does not have the same constitution as the US. Civilians are not given the right to bare arms. It comes in handy for the government when they want to remain in authoritarian/communist control of the public.
